What I can't figure out is why the 2005 manual is so in depth and the 2006 isn't. There is all of 1/2 a page in my manual that talks about the starter. No images or anything about removal and installation.I'll replace the pages guys if I can remember what they were!!!! With the server change the pages got lost in the shuffle but I will find them and repost them.
Beat you to it!!!My 2007 just clicked when I hit the starter and the battery was bad. Ok, replaced the battery hit the started and clunk, starter motor shaft snapped. I don't recall anyone on the forum having a broken starter .. guess I am the first. Replaced started and all is well!
What do you think of the 600 cam? can you tell much of a difference?About three weeks ago I got the 10,000 mile service done and a .600 cam put in. When I picked it up the clutch was dragging again, so I figured they over-filled the primary again. Turns out that this time a single tooth off the starter pinion gear broke off, the piece got stuck behind the pressure plate, and wouldn't let the clutch disengage.
Got the piece out, refilled the primary, and everything is perfect again.
I still have to get another gear, or maybe a whole new starter might be easier.
As a side note, the bike is starting easier with the .600 cam than it did with the stock one. Must have lowered the compression slightly with the extra lift & duration....
