I never ended up finding an Air Shock that fit with the BD setup. I didn't look much more as after I posted a few things came up on my end and funds dried up. I imagine you can put a call into Worx and they might still be able to make the BDM air ride.

I just wish the SAS would fit under the 05 and newer BDs
I never found that out. I guess it won't fit? Too tall?

Im in the same boat, wanting to switch to air ride, I put 3 emails out yesterday, 1 to Curtis for a Stock BDM air ride setup, if he has or can even get them, 1 to SAS, and 1 to ShotGun..

I got an email back from Gary Farrell at SAS, his response to asking if the SAS would fit an 08 K9 was this:

"If you can get your finger between the shock and the transmission bolts then you will have enough clearance (about 1/2") for the SAS."

Based on what Curtis said about him wishing the SAS fit, I would think he already tried and it didnt, which is why he commented on it. I have scoured the internet trying to find an Air Ride for the K9, with no luck.. If I hear back ShotGun, Ill let you know, what is interesting about Shotgun is their comparison sheet they have comparing theirs against all the others, rather interesting... Maybe Ill call them and see what they say...

Just talked to ShotGun, he said based on the few K9's he has worked on, his will not fit on the frame.. his shock diameter is about 3" and I believe in another post the K9 use about 2 1/2" diameter shock size... :(

Ok, talked to SAS... Clearance from the shock centerline to the bottom of the transmission support plate is good, about 1/4" clearance, the issue is the side clearance on the left shock. The tranny support plate is welded to the top of the frame on the right side, goes over the shocks (about 1/2" Clearance), then comes down on the side of the left shock and "S" bends in the inside middle of the frame instead of the top like the opposite side, there is only about 1/4" clearance from the side of the left shock to the tranny support plate, this is where the clearance issue is, and another reason why "Progressive 422's" wont fit as mentioned in other posts due to the diameter of the shock being able to clear the tranny support on the left side of the left shock... Ugh!!! So unless someone has any other ideas besides a stock air ride setup for a K9, it looks like we are stuck. Options avail are WSW Non-Air Shocks, or BDM Air Ride, unless you want to go hacking away at the frame to modify clearance...

Interesting, I know BDM only had one air shock. I assume it was the right? Does anyone make a single shock that will work in that position?
That is what Im getting out of everything, 1 Air Shock, 1 regular shock, I also presume that the air shock went on the right side.. Now as far as getting the air shock and components, then possibly getting one of Curtis' shocks to go with it... Trying to find all the pieces for the stock setup, Shock, compressor, solenoid, seem to be where the issue lays... SHK has the Air shock newly rebuild, solenoid, but no compressor...

I guess my question/concern would be, how/where they mounted it when they built them with it, getting the compressor looks easy, but is there additional mounting hardware they we would need to "bolt" it on? Special plate/mounting bracket, Ive never looked or had an opportunity to see how one is installed on a K9 with the stock air ride setup... Also, what about the integration, I know the stock setup integrates with the handlebar control, is there additional hardware to add this in?

I saw those. Not crazy about spending $550 on a rebuilt shock. I would just fab my own bracket behind the side cover for the compressor. I would wire into the Hi/Lo headlight switch but a simple rocker switch on the bottom of the side cover would do the same.

What was the SHK shock you referred too?

SHK = Shovel Head Kicker on Ebay, the link above... Thats him...

Their great for 04 and older but won't work on 05 and newer.

Kap, are you referring to the KMW Big Dog Air Ride kit I posted or one of the others? I thought the KMW was the stock one for all models, 05 and up included...

Either way, thanks for the response, I'll be hitting you up in a week, I hope you have something good brewing in the works!!

Unless they happen to have a kit laying around the KMW shop they will not be able to fill an order for you as Derek and Donna have no more kits in stock either. They have one rebuilt air shock, the release valves and the gauge cups.
Well then, I guess Im banking on you to come through next week!! LOL Hope its something good :willynilly:
