Switching to Super G

That's kinda depressing that was their response. New customer comes in with a chrome S&S and they immediately try and sell you a different thing.

I have heard great stuff about Mikuni but just shows lack of interest to me by the shop. To work with what the customer has.

I hope they do you right in end.

I agree 100% that was bs and I hope that they put the effort to tune his carb and not try to run a game on him to sell him a mikuni.

I installed the bombsight center piece in my E carb and know it won't run right. I have an S&S dual runner and hooker darkside radius pipes that are stepped to 2.5" so I thought it would help me not have to go with the G setup but now it runs worse I used to have a slight hesitation once and awhile at cruising speeds but know it wants to stall out between 2000 and 3000 rpm. It had a really small main jet .072 and I changed it to a .078 I think I should have just started with changing the main jet. I think it's that center bombsight piece that is messing things up so I am going to remove it and see what happens. But I think that I still want to switch to the Super G setup but not the xxx tazz I have heard lots of good things about the Ultima R1.

My xXx is great ! but I did not get the Tazz .... no need for me. My rpms will never get that high for very long.....

They were definitely going to work the s&s to dial it in. Just wanted to show me some other options. Unless there is something completely messed up with the carb the xxx is staying.

I'd stick with the XXX. Go to s&s web page they tell you how to ajust and what jets to change when u r having problems. That's what I did when I went to the G. I also vented mine.Look at my post its on here somewhere.

I plan on it, I have changed jets and it runs better, no stumble. The issues I am having is irratic idle.. yes I have sprayed for leaks and no change in idle. The problem I was having with the idle is that if I parked it in neutral the idle would drop to about 5-600 rpms and the bike would sometimes cut out, unless I crack the throttle. The other 2 issues were plugs burning irratic front was lean, rear was black rich. Also if I jam on the throttle from idle I would spray a shit ton of gas out of the air filter. I have reset the carb over and over, adjusted the fuel mixture and the accelerator pump with no luck. It's going up on the dyno and getting adjusted and hope this will tweak it where it needs to be. I will post the results and the fix once I get the info.

Is your bike an 05 model? If so the 05 models have restricter plates in between the intake manifold and the heads and that will cause problems when try to push more air and fuel through the intake than it can handle because of the restricter plates. But if you have a G setup this should not happen unless they left the restricter plates in when they installed the G setup.

What do you mean vented your carb? Did you change your air bleed?

My bike is a big bear 06 sled. It has a super e

I'm to work on mine today and see what I can do to make it run better. Let me know what jet setup you have after the dyno tuning because that might help me figure out what direction I need to go.

Bike is done and going over to pick it up. I will post the info when I get back with the results. After discussing it briefly on the phone with the shop it was only minor adjustments in the jetting and setup. Will find out more when I discuss in person. Hopefully this will help you.
Unfortunately I got pretty frustrated and decided to pay someone else to get it setup. Normally I like to do my own work but I am at the point I just want to ride.

Well that's fantastic.

Nothing wrong with getting a Dyno tune. That is better than anyone can do just reading plugs.

Hey sometimes we all get to that point and a dyno tune if done right with the air gas analyzer means your bike should be set up as good as it can be. The performance should be awesome. Can't wait to her all about it.

G manifold is size 398 manifold #16-2596 with extra vacuum fitting. This manifold assumes you have removed the restrictor plates and are not using spacers. I got this part# from S&S.

Ok thanks, does it still have the map sensing for the IST ignition? When you say extra vacuum port do you mean it has 2? I found a 398 16-2602 do you think it would work its for or from an American ironhorse. They ran 111",117",124" motors in there bikes.
