2007 Torque specs

Wanted to know if anyone has the torque specs for the 2007 models or can you go by the ones that have already been posted. Also before I buy a torque wrench do you use FT/ Pds more than Inch/ Pds. Any advice deeply appreciated, Thanks

You'll use ft/lbs more, BUT to do it right you should have three wrenches

1 - 20 -> 250 in/lbs [to do the small stuff right]
2 - 10 -> 120 ft/lbs [for most everything you'll do]
3 - 50 -> 250 ft/lbs [For the big stiff, like drivetrain pulley bolts]

range is generic, but you get the idea, no one wrench can cover the range you need for the entire bike

Here's a machinists torque chart as backup. Didn't know how to post an excel file here so I just took a picture. All US cap head screws, meaning you use an allen wrench to tighten it, are supposed to be at least grade 8. This chart is what they use as a guide for working on airplanes, it's plenty good for your Big Dog. I always use oiled torque since a clean bolt with locktite is essentially oiled.

Anybody know the torque specs for an 04 Pitbull rear rotor/pulley?? the 04 service manual does not list the pulley torques specs. The rotor says the 3/8" are torqued to 23-27 FT LBS The 05 Manual states 60' ft lbs for the pulley. The rotor says 50 ft lbs???

This list shows 60 ft lbs. Put some red loctite on em an torque to 60.....
Done! I used the 05 service manual for the pulley and torqued to 60 FT LB with loctite

There is quite a bit of difference on the brake rotor torque though : The 04 says 24 to 27 ft lbs and the 05 says 50 not sure why such a big difference

and BTW so I ordered red loctite from grainger this week the 277 listed in the service manual was hard to find so I am waiting for this stuff to come in. Finally picked it up today and decided to start getting this thing back together. after getting to a stopping point... decided to go to work on the battery box with the stuff you sent me... opened the box you sent and there is a bottle of that stuff in the package... Just wanted to say thanks you went way over the top,, thought that was real cool!!!

People like you make this site what it is!!! awesome.:cheers::2thumbs:

Question on coil cover head bolts......I replaced the coil cover / motor mount bolts with the longer ones as everyone suggested, one per head. I applied red loctite also. I tried to remove one the other day and it felt like I would snap the bolt before it would loosen. So I left it as is......... I know everyone says to heat bolts with red loctlit but I don't like the idea of applying a torch to polished aluminum heads. Any other ideas on how to loosen these bolts...do the heads have helicoils or just tapped? Thanks for any help?

Problem with these lists posted here in the Forum is that they are NOT 100% correct... It would be nice to have a reliable list though.
