    I need to replace the tires on my 2008 Ridgeback and having trouble getting dealers to tell me the date codes of the tires they are selling. I understand it may be difficult to provide that info. I'm concerned these 330's were made in batches and may have some age on them. I'm not sure about motorcycle tires, but automotive tires have a recommendation of 6 years useful life. Has anyone recently replaced their 330 and how old was it? Thanks, Kurt

    By federal law they can't sell a tire with a DOT date older then 3 years.. which to me is still too old. They might do it by accident but I don't think so because they log the dot numbers for inventory and sales records for you. The dot is a 4 digit number, week and year it was made
    2617 = the 26th week of 2017

    So would the tire have something like "DOT 2617" molded on the sidewall somewhere?

    Thank you! I need to check my tires now. I tried to find the date code when I first got it, but I didn't know what I was looking for then.

    I replaced my 330 back tire after the 10 year reunion and it's date code is 2815. So, it was the 28th week of 2015. Not a problem for me. The tire it replaced was a 2009 almost bald and not ridden in the rain the last few years.

    I remember that tire... it was a pleasure riding staggered just behind you. Could tell you have many saddle miles the way you held that line.

    Make sure you check the date code on the tire you purchase. There is NO federal regulations on age of tires that can be sold (not unless it has happened recently). I think New York passed state legislation about tires not being older than 6 years. There is several states trying to get legislation passed for a 6 year date for tires. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend 6 year limit. If you purchase your tire online make sure you can send it back if its old.

    I found a place that will allow me to send the tire back if I am not happy with the age, I guess that is the best I can do. I am hoping I can get one within a year old. Being a 330 I suspect inventory does not move too fast. Looks like about 2 years old based on Nukerangers purchase.

    most places like dennis kirk and j&pcycles have their sales center in one part of the country and the distribution centers in other places, so, yes, it is hard for them to check the dates for an individual order.

    I did see post 2. I built tires for 30 years. I still work in a tire manufacturing plant, 40 years and counting . Unless legislation has changed recently there is no law. Tell me again why I’m looking at post 2 again

    I just went thru this with Discount Tire and Tire Rack, I called and they said they can't check the dates because of the volume of tires they ship each day and they don't know what warehouse its going to ship from.

    Even with the date code it doesn't guaranty a good tire, I had a 2 year old tire dry rot and when I wasn't riding it, it was parked outta the sun inside.
    So I still think life is like a box of chocolates, cause ya never know what your gonna get.

    Roll the dice:whoop:

    At the dealership were I work we will not sell tires older than three years old, They don't set in stock that long anyway.

    I wonder if they still make a 330 tire?
