Well....went for a ride around town today and was thinking bike felt abit strange....when I got back to the workshop I was checking out the shocks and found my swingarm is broken (not just cracked). It may have been cracked for a while and now has broken right through just next to where the shock mount is. :(:(Has anyone else had this?
I have stripped the back this arvo (only took 30min to get the swingarm out) and I am hoping someone can replace that part off the swingarm or maybe cut it and put a stronger piece of pipe inside the current one.

I was riding around town with my 12y/o daughter on the back yesterday when i found this!!
I only weight 85kg and she is only 37kg so weight is not the problem.
I hit a couple of good potholes on the last rally i went on so maybe that, but really this doesnt have "push" forces on it, it has "pull" forces. Maybe a shock has "jammed"...but then if anything it should pull the actual shock mount off.

Wow scary. Good catch though. I would think your idea of someone beefing up and rewelding would work if you can't find a replacement.

Havent done anything yet,I'm currently looking for a replacement swing arm, looks like mine has been cracked for a while and finally broke into,I'm a pretty big guy(250 lbs)and the roads in North Dakota aren't the smoothest in the world, while I'm at it I think I'll replace the shocks with a new set from wildsteedworx.Havent had the bike long and the previous owner was much larger than me,so no telling how long it's been cracked.

I wont be looking for a replacement, it would way to much to get it to New Zealand.
Its not too hard to make up a jig to hold the frame in some of the bolt locations and then cut this piece out and replace it.
I have also emailed Rolling Thunder to check if they know why this area would be under stress on these older frames.

please let me know what you find out, should you change your mind bdpartsking thinks he may have these swingarms, but I agree with you,it wouldn't take much to repair the original,I used to cut and extend them all the time back in my dragstrip days, would actually be stronger than the original, good luck!
