I've always liked the way the Harley and AIH primarys looked, with the small and large bubbles sticking out (first picture).
Most BDMs have those convex circles that I'm not a big fan of (second picture).
Is it possible to just change out the primary cover or are the hole patterns etc different so you have to change the entire primary (read upgrade to an open primary)?

You can but it requires changing the primary and transmission due to the proprietary nature of the transmission case. Then you will likely have to deal with battery box issues etc. We're developing some Special Edition Big Dogs that have a different and far superior drive train to the OEM Big Dog and it requires replacing the transmission mount plate. So in general I don't think it's a simple bolt up situation.

Why would you want to disguise your Big Dog as a Harley? Haha The earliest and most recent years of Big Dogs have the Harley-type primary, we middle dog owners have the concave.
Too many (unschooled) people ask if mine is a Harley as is. Wouldn't want to add to their confusion.
Sure wish I was closer to see what Captain is doing with drive trains, having experienced several clutches and a couple of transmission rebuilds.
But to each his own. I like my concave primary just fine.

Agree.... For my taste, I like the sleeker look of the "concave" vs. the "clunkier" look of a bolt on that sticks out. As Rick said, to each his own!

I have to agree that the baker primary and cover looks so much better than the Harley, yes In away it’s proprietary but not really because parts are readily available direct from Baker they continue to make and stock parts for all their drivetrains , Baker is a well known company with very high quality parts/accessories

typically, they sell cheaper to a dealer who in turn, can pass on some of the savings to their customers.. That's the route that I took.

IMO the DSSC is the best looking setup on the market.

Why would anyone want the humpback old harley style is beyond me.
