Dam Kel, that looks like a primitive fix but if it works it works.
That's what S&S suggested.... So we shall see what happens after o give this a shot
I’ve got mine apart right now to replace a leaking rear rocker box gasket, tranny leak, clutch slip/drag, and install a .585 cam Great timing on this thread as the constant ticking was driving me nuts too. I thought it was coming from the connecting rods/lifters. Going to take the rockers into work and thread in a set screw to lock the rocker shafts as suggested. Spring is coming and this riding season is going to be even better!
I'm going to do what John suggested and put a set screw in there.. haven't done it yet cuz I've been working 140 hours every 2 weeks.. so family and wife time has been priority on my time off.. lol.. but I'll be getting it done sooner then later and will update with results.. bike runs amazing.. just ticks like crazy!
Operation Tic-Free complete.
That looks good....will he interesting to hear how that works and holds up!

Did you also grind a flat on the hardened rocker shaft where the set screw contacts the shaft?
Very clean! Did it work?
Yes. Locked the shaft position by installing the 5/16” bolt back in its hole. Used 13/64” end mill to drill the hole for the set screw and milled slightly into the shaft to ensure solid engagement.
Still waiting for a few other parts to get my engine completely back together. Will follow up though
That's a solid looking repair, and worth trying. Like Eric said, would be interesting to see how it holds up over time. Nice work Steveo.
I agree.. I did what s&s suggested and it just quieted it down.. but didn' take it away
Looks good. Very nice install.
Kel, are you going to do it or ride for now and get to it later? I’ve got a slight tic but not enough to pull it apart just for that. Will be a must do if I have to take it apart for another gasket set though.
I'e been riding it for a while like so.. I mean the bike screams and all is well.. but I'm hoping to do it this weekend.. if not maybe next or so. I just need to make sure I do it before June for unleashed
Definitely have it good to go for unleashed. Keep us posted on how it goes. I’m chasing a carb issue now getting ready for bike-week. Talked to Ker and a local tech so few things to look at tomorrow.
Thanks guys. Suggestion came from this forum so glad to share how it works out for me. Would have never imagined this could be the source of that tic. One thing I noticed though was out of four rocker shafts, only one was snug where the bolt should lock the shaft in place. The other three holes were pretty sloppy. Shafts are definitely locked now. Im looking forward to seeing if this issue is resolved myself.
Ker may be a douche.. but he is good help.. sorry Ker.. ya know I'll cut it straight with ya.. lol
That's BroDouche to you mister
While you had your bike tore down did you get time to fix your side covers?
