General questions for 03 chopper

Hey guys, looking to change the oil on my chopper. I've searched through the entire "how-to" section and i cant really find anything relating to my bike in particular, and if you search oil change, it wont show any results. So, that being said, here are my questions.

1. Am i just taking the plug out of the oil tube to drain the oil, or is there something else I should be doing. I was reading something about another plug, but I wasnt sure if it pertained to my bike.

2. Where do I get an oil filter, and what is the actual P/N. Its not like I can just shoot to the store and look it up. I heard a regular harley filter would work but still not sure if im getting the correct info.

3. I read something about running the engine with the filter off. That seems pretty messy to me. Will it be a problem if i just change the filter as you would in a normal oil change.

4. Im probably going to use mobil 1 oil, but i wasnt sure if 15w-40 or 20w-50 is best for the 107.

5. How much oil does it take? And how the hell do I check it if it doesn't have a dipstick??

Thanks a lot!! Just got them. I have a manual from an 05 that was given to me when i purchased the bike but its not exactly dead on. Any recommendations on oil or filter??

Some of us are using K&P or other brand reusable ones.... but you can just use an HD one... not sure of the part number for you motor... hopefully some guys with an 03 will jump in and give you their advice on what they use.

I´ve got an 06 K9.

Plenty threads about oil.... Mobil1, Amsoil, etc... it must be 20w-50 big twin oil

No, ignore that.... I forgot to mention it in my email... that´s an old believe.... 99 % of us here are using full Synthetic.

You can use a harley oil filter, just tell them for an evo motor.

Don't run you're engine with no oil in the tank. Some guys turn the engine over a couple of times after they remove the filter to get the oil out of the sump. Use synthetic oil. Mobile is ok. You should have a dipstick on the cap on the oil tank. Take you're time. You will do just fine.

I have a 2003 chopper with the 107 motor. Go to the HD store & get an oil filter for a 1996 Evo motor big twin. On oil use 20-50. I'm hooked on Royal Purple.

True that, do NOT turn over the engine without oil in the tank...... First fill the oil tank, then (without filter) start the bike.... you will see dirty oil coming out at very low pressure, no mess, then once you see the clean oil coming out stop the engine, place the new filter, refill tank to its correct level and you are good to go.

Make a funnel out of an empty plastic bottle and place it under where the filter attaches so to avoid oil dropping over your frame.... use your imagination.

Local auto parts stores carry Puraltor and K&N Chrome filters that will fit too. I also use Royal Purple 20W 50. Red Line HD Trans oil with shock proof (its pink!). Its nice too...If you have a leak...you know exactly what it is by the color!

I only have an oil cap no dip stick, this is pretty much my main concern. I have no idea if I have enough oil in this thing. Ive been a mechanic for about 13 years now so the mechanics of it dont concern me, its more or less getting the right parts and being able to check the oil. Any one else with an 03 know how to check the oil??

and also should i be draining the crank case also, or just the oil tank??
