Constant power to both rear tail lights (even with key off)

Chasing a gremlin looking for thoughts.....

Using the test pig tails I picked up from Night Train last year :2thumbs:, I have confirmed a constant (key on or off) 12 volt feed on both rear turn signal lines. The tail signal line feeds function properly and the front turn signals are unaffected and operating normally).....

Bike has scorpio alarm but I disconnected the unit from the battery and disconnected that BDM harness from the tail light system before testing at the tail light assembly JST connector directly off the EHC Harness.

Bike has the newer 18 light EHC - no turn signal fault lights are lit until a turn button is pressed.....left turn button yields left fault light and right button yields right fault light....

With the key off, I noticed the left rear light is lightly pulsing -- not as if it is trying to blink but pulsing at a steadier, faster rate -- which is usually an indication of a bad ground but the JST ground lines show no resistance and good continuity.

Ignition switch tests good.....

Disconnected right hand controller harness to rule it out....all switches test good....have not tested rear brake but would still have the problem of power to the tail light assemblies even when the key is off....

Other than an EHC malfunction, I am at a loss to determine what is causing the power to feed down both turn signal lines even with the key off......appreciate your thoughts and suggestions....

Thanks

If your battery "is" for a fact, Good.
and..
Your "D" connector pins are all good, clean and dielectric greased.

An intermittent positive voltage pulse to the tail lights "only", with the key off. No other lights pulsating whatsoever? The marker/running lights are all tied to the power buss inside the EHC and can only be activated by the key switch alone.
But the rear brake/signal lights are on their own circuit. And with you verifying that the key switch is working properly, and the rear lights still pulsating while the key is in the off position.

By the sound of things, it's a very strong possibility that your EHC has gone south on you.

Sorry Brother!

Dead - you have summed the situation up accurately so the EHC may be the culprit.....ughhhhh

Mick - I am confident that the battery is good....a few months old.....always on the tender.....13 volts standing....I have not load tested.

Update......After re-checking all connections, grounds and continuity, I still have the taillight problem so I ordered the wire-plus system from Jake....will install shortly.

Dam sorry to hear that dingo. Good thing is your losing the EHC bad thing is cost and time....

Sorry Dingo, somethings are inevitable and unavoidable.
