Hard starting after HID install

I just installed a HID kit and am now having difficulty starting the bike.

Bike spins over fine and sounds like it is running and when you let off the starter button it cuts off immediately.

Almost acts like there is not enough amperage to run the HID, turn the starter and fire the coils at the same time.

Has anyone else run into this issue? I having searched and searched forums with no success finding anything related.

Do I need to do anything different to start the bike after installing the HID kit?

ok,just checking some have got them elsewhere and had problems,maybe a ground or something like that,recheck your install

The HID unit draws less amperage or at least it's equal if it has Jake's upgrade to it, than the stock headlight units!

The headlight shouldn't have anything to do with it starting, unless something is wired incorrectly and shorting out the EHC.
And this can happen by mis-wiring things by accident.

Re-check your wiring connections closely.

Mine has done exactly the same thing 3 or 4 times since I installed my HID. Maybe the voltage drops too low when cranking and the EHC thinks the battery valtage is too low and shuts down. I think the HID is lit when the ignition is first turned on. I think it is turned off when the starter is engaged and then is restruck when the starter is disengaged and the engine is running. I wonder if there is a current spike when the HID is restruck and the battery voltage dips low enough to cause the EHC to shut down momentarily on low supply voltage. Maybe a better or newer battery would help. I do not claim to have an answer and am only tossing this out there to get some more input.

Now a "Bad" battery is a good possibility of a problem. :2thumbs:
Best Bet would be to have your battery load tested every year in the spring if possible, due to the duration of most, being inactive all winter.

But the HID should have nothing to do with anything regarding tripping out the EHC.
Not "enough" current draw? Sure! Some of the EHCs and HIDs just weren't compatible and the HIDs didn't work. But the EHC functioned correctly in all of the other areas. But that's what Jake was working on and has now rectified the issue for the BDM EHC users.
The headlight "should" go out while the starter button is being depressed, that's normal! :2thumbs:

Not to mention that the headlight cuts out completely when you hit the start button!
