pumping oil

I've got a 2002 Boxer that is pumping oil out of a fitting on the bottom of the case right next to the oil pump. Can anyone tell me why. I'd definitely appreciate any info.
Thanks

Loose fitting, bad hose, possible crack oil pump. Clean it up and see if you can narrow down where it is coming from and then fix the problem.

It is a hose fitting with tubing attached that runs along the lower frame on the right side of the bike. This fitting is on the engine case, directly next to the oil pump.

The hose appears to be crankcase ventilation as the hose is not attached to anything on the end that is not connected to the fitting on the engine case. It pumped oil through this hose once before after the bike sat up for a while when I painted it. After it ran for a minute, the oil quit running out of the hose.

That would make sense and if it has set for awhile, maybe just be marking it's spot. How much oil are you talking about??

Right now it won't stop pumping oil and now the bike will not start, but will continue to pump oil as long as the engine is turning over.

Ya, everyone knows dogs gotta make spots everywhere.......sorry, But I think it's normal for the conditions you're describing. Mine blows out oil sometimes after an oil change.

The not starting part can be normal too. Just kidding. The trouble starting has nothing to do with your oil problem. Have you checked for spark and gas?

You don't understand. The bike pumped out almost a whole tank of oil. It's more than marking territory. It's a full blown oil spill, and its not running out, but pumping out as the engine turns over....running or turning over with the starter.

Clean the ball "check" valve on top of the oil pump. Sounds like it's clogged allowing oil to drain into the crankcase. Drain the crankcase and refill the tank with oil and restart and see if this fixes your problem.

I have an 02 Boxer too. With mine gravity will cause the oil to slowly flow to the crank case and all of it will spill out if it sits few months. Once you start it and the oil will pump up to the tank and stop leaking. If mine sits for a long time, I will route the hose up to a higher position and then none of the oil will leak out.

Now that I read Raywood's post, maybe my "Check" valve is stuck...been like that the whole time I owned it though, since 03.

Smart man right there!!! :iagree:

Absolutely the problem. Happens on many older HD's with stock oil pumps to a lesser degree. has to be stuck open to keep pumping oil.

I cleaned the check ball and seat and that took care of the oil pumping out of the crankcase. Thanks to everyone that offered info.
