2001 Husky Wiring Problem

Have you checked the EHC status LEDs? If it's like my 01 Mastiff, there's a Thunderheart 4250 EHC tucked away between the tanks. You can access it by removing the dash (hex cap bolt by speedo and seat). I'd pull the EHC and start tracing wires there, checking for shorts, etc... Here's a a link to the EHC manual that will help you in pinning everything out / troubleshooting: http://www.thunder-heart.com/Tech Service PDFs/EI4250.pdf

Also I noticed you mentioned in another post about melting battery post terminals. Make sure all the cables are clean and snug. Be careful on the positive terminal leading to the starter solenoid as you can twist the contacts inside if you torque it too much. Also, your 107 probably doesn't have compression releases so you may need to pop it gear and rock it off the compression stroke (melted my own getting happy on the starter button once).

Good news maybe

I may i found the electrial problem, I will know tomarrow. after looking most of the day at the wiring, I saw that power went from the battery to the EHC and then to the Switch. (I thought it was the other way around) I noticed a DIOD pluged in the EHC did a ohm test showed it is bad. If i am lucky this will take care of the problem. Wallace

Wallace, I finally got back to your PM, it is in your inbox.

If this fixes your problem then great ignore this however I am not aware of a diode that plugs into the 2001 EHC. It has connectors and a starter relay. Is the diode part of the harness? Can you describe where or even post a pic? An ohm meter will not tell you if a diode is good or bad unless you had a direct short across it. Average diode needs about 0.7V forward voltage across it to have continuity in one direction, the other direction will be an open until the max rev voltage is reached. Give me some more detail if it doesn't work for you and we'll try to get you going.

Night Train,I gotta tell ya,when I try to read your posts it confuses the hell out of me,but I'm glad your here,I'll just have to start learning this electrical stuff for the bike, any good books you would recommend to start me off,???thanks for sharing your knowledge and helping guys out,,Bottoms upp:cheers:

Germanium diodes are 0.4v

But like you said a standard diode has a reverse voltage drop of 0.7v

If you have a digital multi meter most have a diode test function.

I can't remember what the standard Zener diode voltage was.

Man that class was 20 years ago! I thought all those brain cells died out. :loony:

Sorry Lars, here is a good book. It is a technical book but reads very easily.

Electrical Engineering 101: Everything You Should Have Learned in School but Probably Didn't

You can also google different things like. Diodes, Resistors, Capacitor, Ohms Law, electrical 101 etc.

I got no where else to go Wood. My wife caught me looking at porn so the avitars on this sight is as close as I can get. She keeps me on a pretty tight leash now :spank:

Can anyone help? I ride a 2001 Husky still new. 8ooo miles, And and nothing but problems. In the last year fork problems module ehc problems starter problems. and about $1500 out of my pocket. The latest thought i would take a ride, turned over a couple times, then no power at all. turm key on nothing. I don't even no where to start. I just sold my 97 Hert. Never had one problem with it, i thinking i sold the wrong bike. Any help out there? Wallace P.S I let my local Big Dog service dealer have it for 2 weeks and when i got it back it ran great ror about 10 blocks. Wayne over a Southern v twin had it running right in about one hour. Until now.  :loony:
Hey dont know if you fixed your issues but Im here because my friend has an 01 husky with 4000 miles. he has has to put out 5k plus to try and fix the same issues but noone not even the dealer could fix it. After constant returns to the dealer they told him not to bring the bike for repair anymore and BigDog nor any US dealer will fix his bike anymore. This is the worst company to build a motorcycle!! Their electrical engineers should have their licenses pulled. (vent)

Anyway after about 3 years in the shop, 5 starters, 8 batteries, 3 coils, 10 tows, 5 new battery cables, new ECU, all that the issue turned out to be was a bad ignition switch and badly crimped coil wires. The wires on the coil were not weather sealed so they all corroded from the inside. So I took the wires that go to the coil extended them (too short fro the factory) soldered them, heat shrunk them, soldered 'o' style ends on the end of the wired, attached them with dialectic grease the used marine sealant after I attached them. Turns out there was a cross spark since the terminals were so close. Then I replace the switch with a 7.99 brass sealed lawn tractor switch. Now his bike starts every time!! Needless to say he is very happy and upset with the horrible build quality and horrible customer service he got. He now is dealing with a primary cover failed gasket and yesterday the starter relay on the ECU sticks...lol Hope this helps...Good luck your gonna need it

Well if you came into my shop with an attitude like that you wouldn't be getting very far either. Now no way am I defending the shop but the bike is a great bike. And just because your little buddy can't figure out that the ignition switch was bad.. Well shame on him. You are the hero right. Maybe you should open up shop so we can have you save us too.  :job:

What attitude? The bike barely had 600 miles on it and it was at the shop 3 times in 600 miles? The dealer and BigDog themselves refuse to back up their product which cost $27,000? I would have an attitude. Also why should he know what to fix? Its his job to ride the bike and enjoy it not try and diagnose electrical issues, switch issues, wiring issues etc. He was expecting a quality product for his money...he was not delivered a quality product. And yes I am the hero. Get real dude this bike just stinks in quality!!

I have a 2001 husky as well, The only electrical issue has been that my neg battery cable comes loose every once and a while which will shut the whole bike down. All I do is pull off and I always carry a wrench, and tighten up and move on. The first time it happened i got all freaked out because the connection was tight enough that I could not turn with my fingers, but not enough to have current. Also check that your battery terminals are not cracked inside beyond the bolt. I have had two cars batteries that happened to and it took a while to figure it out.

I am glad to see another husky on here, I wish I had compression releases on mine, had to replace starter in Jan this year.

Why would you come to a sight like this and advertise that they are junk and what a great guy you are. Real hero that you found a bad switch. I'm not going to your gay porn sitght and bashing queers now am I ? I happened to not dislike gays by the way. That is my disclaimer. My dog is a flamer. Sorry for the highjack Wallace. Just burns my ass why someone would do that.
