Why the Adjure Blue Dot lamp is a Piece of Crap

Yep -- in an effort to inform the members, I continued my foolish experimentation with Adjure products. I posted a previous rant here:
http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/showthread.php?t=280&highlight=adjure

Well, I was chatting with a local dealer about it and he said, "Hey, I got one of those and decided not to use it on a build -- you want it." So for a beer, I got a new Adjure Blue Dot lamp.

Put it in three months ago with the Adjure supplied bulb. Well, needless to say, it's a piece of crap too. I've noticed my headlight is not as bright as it use to be since I'm now going to work in the dark.

I'm changing to a different lamp I got from Eastern Performance Cycle. Here's some pics of the Adjure, the New one, and a side-by-side compairison.

Adjure after three months;

The new one From Eastern;

side-by-side:

Me, I think the blue dot is heating up and crap is getting on the inside of the light. Or, Adjure has a lousy QC program in Taiwan.

My experience will not reflect the experience of others, but you may want to consider your options in lamps.

All good info chacha ..... I had started looking at their products so I'm glad for the feedback. Thanks!

Adjure used to warranty their headlights when they did this...you might contact them and see if they'll give you a new one...I've seen a few of these do that but for the most part they are okay...the only other problem I've seen is the tribar thing breaking and flopping around inside...I think the cloudy color comes from condensation building up inside and making it cloudy...or it might also be like you said the heat from the bulb..either way it sucks and I would hit them up for a new bulb if nothing else to make a point...if you need me to I'll call them and see what I can get done for ya...

Hey Pink!

You're right. In general I think most of their products have been OK, but the one's with the colored dots have problems I think. I was curious and found that some brake cleaner would get rid of some of the junk, but I don't want to be pulling the lamp every three months to clean it! :down:

I have no need for them to replace it...I'll never use it. I make my point by warning others about the problems I have had :angry:

Kick -

I probably had 2-3000 miles or so on the light. I tend to think in time and not miles since I'm on the thing nearly every day...:up:

I've had mine on for about 5000 miles, and I can see some small amount of buildup inside, but it seems to be more on the reflector than on the inside face. Nowhere near as bad as yours, chacha.

I'm gonna have to ask one o'them polishing chicks you told me about to lick it off the inside surface. :eek: :D

Like I said -- "My experience does not reflect the experience of others."

Adjure has been around a while so they have to be doing something right. I just think their Quality Control has problems. Some of these lamps are obvoiusly fine -- the ones I've used, not so much!

I Dunno, I 99% of the time agree with ChaCha, But in this Case, I've had Mine on for well over 5k Miles and it's a Clean as the Day I put it on, Actually, If I'm not Mistaken, I dind't use their Supplied Bulb, I spent the 60 Bucks for the Jap after Market that Gasman used.
But the Lense and Blue Dot seem Fine.
I'm running the same setup but instead of the blue dot I have the black dot. And that Jap bulb is a PIAA. Maybe its the cheap bulbs over heating it???

I have the same light with the PIIA bulb with about 1000 miles on it.
It's brighter than factory and still looks great so I'll watch it and see

I looked more closely at my Adjure headlight, and then decided to take a few pics.

I installed it last spring, and have always used a PIAA bulb in it. The stock bulb is the silver one on the right - the spare PIAA bulb is the blue one on the left. The PIAA bulb seemed considerably brighter, for the same wattage.

This first pic was taken back in June. You can see the degradation has started. There is a little fogging in the upper part of the reflector, and the center spot is no longer clear blue. Originally, the center spot was like a bright blue marble - now you can see the original color only at the very bottom of the spot.

This is a pic I took today - you can see the fogging has increased, but is still primarily on the top of the reflector. Overall, the light is still very usable.

A closer look at the center spot shows an interesting pattern of smudge, as if the heat has caused something to generate a hazy vapor, which then deposits on the surfaces. Of course there is no telling where the vapor is coming from - it could be any of several parts, including the reflector, glue holding the brace in place, the marble center, or even the bulb.

I'm not sure yet what I'll do about the whole thing - probably take the bulb out and see if it, or something else, is deteriorating. Depending on what I find, I may try to contact Adjure to see if they have experience with the problem, and depending on their response, if they'll do anything about it. Regardless, I'll have to swap it out before the spring riding season comes around.

Good pics P8RIOT! I suspect that the material used for the blue dot or the adhesives used are out-gassing under heat and causing a particulate vapor.

My light stays on alot since I'm on it every day. It may be that they had a bad batch of Blue dots made this summer. For me, it's not worth another try after two failures...

There is a long rant from me on the other thread on what I did the last time.

Bottom line for me is: Adjure is a big outfit that off-shores their production and really doesn't really care about feedback or QC. "You're mileage may vary..."
