Ok I've been looking for a replacement bolts that's on top of an 05 Ridgeback rocker box cover ... I need to cut the back cylinder bolt off to get the cover off so I can replace the rocker box cover and shorten the new bolt so I can put it back in. Tried to take the bolt out but the frame was in the way .... :spank: :argue:

you would have to specify TP (4 bolt) or S&S (6 bolt). sorry, no ideas. unless there is a dealer with some extras in their inventory in your area.

It's a 4 bolt ... I was just wondering if I just loosen the bolts under the rocker box cover that the rocker box would come off with no trouble then I could just replace the gasket and retighen the bolts back on and then tighten the rocker box cover .... hummm :job:  :job: :D

real easy job but just look at your manual. If you don't have one consult a harley manual. You do not need a shorter bolt for the top cover just remove all 4 and then pull the cover off with the bolt still in the cover and put it back the same way. If the lower is leaking you will have to remove the rockers then the lower and replace the gaskets.

Not a hard job you just gotta clean the screw holes out for the cover real well and do not over torque.

My situation is that the back left bolt won't clear the frame and can't remove the cover.
That's the delima that I'm in. Got the other three out but can't wiggle the cover off without cutting the bolt. If there's a way to just loosen the motor to tilt it to the left then I could get it out. Any suggestions? Beside just live with the leak. :spank: :bang: :2thumbs:
Remember this an 05 Ridgeback ... that's why I've been asking if anybody has done the gasket on an 05 Ridgeback.

What the ???

I'm not sure if the original gasket is the same ... the ones I got from the dealer are metal - alumium. :spank:  :D

Insert title here...
I thought that only the top cover gasket was leaking (an o-ring?). The stuff I recommended won't do anything for metal.

My bad... :(

To Leak or Not To Leak

The leak is at the bottom of the rocker box ... but to get to it of course you have to remove the rocker box cover to get to the bolts that hold the rocker box on top of the cylinder ... I think I'll just sell it and get a new 2010 Ridgeback ... yeah right that'll solve my problem ... jk    :spank:

That's my thinking too ... just want to know if anybody with an 05 Ridgeback that has done the rear rocker box gasket with success ... I did get a suggestion from my friend that was helping me do the gasket ... to check the oil level ... I had at least 1 cup too much ... so I sucked the oil out with a turkey basser (spelling???) and went for a ride ... we'll see what happens ... can anybody tell me what happens to the rockers after the engine is shut off? Seems from the adjustment thread that when adjusting the pushrods that you have to let the rods bleed for a few minutes. If I have too much oil would that cause the leak? It seems to leak only after the dog sits there after a ride.
hummmm???? :job:  :D  Thanks

Rocker Box Mystery Solved for 05 Ridgeback.

Ok ... took it the shop to get it done by a professional. They called BigDog and they said that the bolt that I was trying to get out is too long and needs to be cut and replaced with a shorter bolt. No kidding.!!! The professional cut his finger while trying to cut the bolt ... then scraped my chrome cover ... surprised that he admitted it. Got it rechromed and can't tell it was scratched. But now I can remove the rocker box cover no problem ... I think ... haven't tried to remove it but I believe there's a shorter bolt in it now. Leak fixed. :D :2thumbs: :flag:

It's alright Now ...

Those would of helped but the bolt that BD installed when they built the engine was too long. The frame was in the way to completely get the bolt out to remove the rockerbox cover. So it had to be cut off and a shorter bolt put back in. Would like a set of those allens someday. Thanks ... :D  :flag:
