2.5" forward extensions help

1. Are there instructions for installing 2.5" forward extensions?

2. The screw that connects to the shift linkage seems to come out too far. It looks like it'll hit the down tubes. Is there something I'm missing here? :loony:

Ok figured it out. I'm still having issues with the old shift linkage screw being too long and hitting the down tube. Not sure if the screw needs to be cut or if I can buy one at the hardware store.

I thought the kit came with "everything" to do the conversion. wtf is up with the screw?

Pics would be good. I checked my setup and even of the bolts were out too far and the shift arms were clocked wrong, it still wouldn't hit the downtube....

I had to adjust the heim joints on both sides of the ship rod to the rear. Then I cut the screw down to where it meets the heim. I don't have that cone shaped extended spacer that I've seen on some of the bikes. If you do have this spacer I would pull it out.

Good luck,
Ray

If I remember, they offer a different bolt so that it won't hit the downtube...Vicky or Nelson, or R&B cycles here on the forum could confirm this.

I had to machine down the cone spacer to make it work on my bike. When I called to check the dealer told me they do it on qall the bikes and I could just bring the spacer in. I have a lathe and mill so it was not a problem

Turns out a quick 'n easy solution was to flip the spacer onto the other side. I don't have any tools to grind the spacer + screw down. Could I find a similar screw that'd fit at a hardware store?

Here's what it looks like now-

Final thoughts for anyone thinking of doing the 2.5 inch extension mod-
1. It was pretty easy to do on my own (if I can do it, anyone can)
2. You'll have to extend your break line (part included in the kit). So you'll have to re-bleed your rear break-line. I wasn't initially aware of this, but it's easy to do.
3. I'm 6" and the extended controls are a perfect fit. They feel great. Real glad I got 'em :whoop:

It does come with a shorter screw. I was taking pick while working on mine and got so mad at that point I forgot to get a pic of that part. It seems like it went on the right, or brake, side because of the plate that was put in place instead of going directly through the control.

I put them on my K9 right away. I'm 6 ft. It's amazing how much more comfortable the bike is with the controls farther forward.
