2001 starter help

i have a 2001 big dog mastiff. when i crank it, the starter makes a spinning sound. repair guy said its the starter and not the solenoid. have been looking for a starter and was told a harley starter will cross over. just looking for the best bet. big dog starters arent very cheap. thanks for any info

Probably the starter clutch needs replaced. I had my 2002 starter rebuilt at the local automobile starter shop. Cost a $130 and has worked great for the past 2 years.

Yes you can have it rebuilt for a lot less or you can buy a H-D style as long as it is around the same size. Make sure there is no clearance issue, if there is then go with a smaller body size.
If you are into tearing things apart and repairing them, you can purchase a starter clutch and rebuild it yourself. Not too hard a job.

I've got one I bought off ebay I'll let go for 175.00 + s&h. Its rebuilt. It fits a 03 pitbull 107 ci motor. I think they would be the same....
