2002 Big Dog Husky Speedo issue

I just purchased this bike and the speedometer is a factory Big Dog/VDO about 3" round. When i start it, it goes back and forth, then when you start riding, it is reading like 50MPH. The odometer is working but sometimes goes in and out. Any ideas on what it is?

Could have a dirty sensor. I would pull it and clean it off first.

I am having a problem with my tach. everyone on here has been telling me that the circuit boards in these speedos get moisture and corrosion in them and that you have to take them apart, inspect them thoroughly and clean them as good as possible, and if that doesn't work, basically pick it up and SLAM IT against the nearest wall and buy a new one!!!!!
