2002 Big Dog Pitbull
Clean, just serviced, bike needs a little TLC. I travle for work and want a bike that is ready to ride when I am, not just go click click, or whatever it decides to do that day. Its has 9000 miles and has been ridden 3 times in two years. Paint is red, with ghost flames. All parts I have replaced are OEM big dog from Bourgets in Denver Co. The bike is located in Southern Indiana. It ran when I parked it, but now the starter just goes click. Selling to buy a Harley.

Sorry to hear that, but what have you had done to it.

You indicate that it only goes "click click", so I have to assume that your starter solinoid is trying to work.

How is the battery?

Had the starter check or replaced

Check all the wiring, ever try to jump around the starter switch

Does engine turn over freely, no jammed tranny

Have you tried push starting it to see if it will run and thus limited to starter issue?

Got to be something simple.

Hopefully you can get it figured out and get over the frustration and enjoy, but if not, good luck on selling it.

I have a new battery, with a full charge. I have new cables (all three) and all posts have been cleaned. I have removed the solenoid cover and cleaned the contacts as prescribed in several posts here. Finally I even replaced the starter relay in the dash. I dont really have much time (Sat-Sun) if Im lucky to work on it, and the old lady has drawn the line. I also can turn it over freely (engine) in neutral, and in gear.

Thanks for the advice.

I realize you are posting in the swap meet section in order to sell your bike but have you placed a meter on your battery to see what the charge is really at? New battery full charge, I thought I had that too until I put a meter on the battery.

Have you tried starting the bike while the tender is still hooked up?

Also,
If you are interested in getting it running, I can move some of these posts to the help wanted section for you while still keeping the swap meet ad alive.

Didnt have a meter when I checked it last, but I did they old hillbilly check. I hit the starter switch and the headlight dimmed a hair. Once I let off it brightened up. Its extremely bright (duh I know) but its got a good charge. I had my tender hooked up and it kicked on after I tried to start it. It stayed on awhile. I also hooked up battery cables to my Duramax (not running) and those batteries are 4 months old so they are good. Same results.

Thanks for the quick response guys.

when was the last time it ran?

I recall from your posts a while back that the bike was in a million pieces....

What was done to it?

It ran last Sept. I started it and let it run for awhile. It was in a million pieces (figure of speach) this winter. I took it apart to clean the scum off it. I only removed big pieces (seat, mirrors & tanks ) I did this to also replace all the rubber bushings in the gas tank, and the chrome bolts that hold it on. I also removed the exhaust to give them a good going over with Blue Job. I only electrical I touched was when i replaced the headlight assem. that I bought for it. The old one had a scratch that bugged me.

I also have an 02 pitbull and after my 3rd starter I put a slam button on the back of the solenoid so now when the starter goes click click click I just reach down and hit the button on the back of the solenoid. I have had it for about 4 months and it hasn't failed to start the bike yet..

I had that problem numerous times and after replacing the starter once, I put a slam button on it and I guarantee it will start everytime if you battery is not dead.
