I have been reading posts about ignition upgrades for a 2004 Chopper. I looked up part numbers and they all seem to fit under nose cone of cam cover. Beings mine does not have a removable plate on nosecone to get at module for adjustments is there a module that can be wired and mounted remotely like the stock one under the seat? I do not want to buy a new cam cover if I don't have to. Are all 04 cam sensor type pickups? If anyone has part numbers for a module and single fire coil for this application I would appreciate your information. Thanks

Hey Raywood, I am not sure if the way I wrote my post was confusing. My 04's nosecone is a 1 piece without the small round cover that can be removed for adjusting module if it was placed there. I would like to get a module that is placed under seat as the original if possible or is changing out nosecone my only option? Can anyone tell me the location of sensor when used as camshaft pickup or a crankshaft pickup? I was curious if any late 04"s might be of a crankshaft sensor design? Thanks for any help!

FREEDOM!!!
Can you post a picture of your nose cone? Is it an after market chrome cover that is covering the original nose cone and the access plate?

I am at work and can't send a picture right now. The cover appears to be the stock billet aluminum 1 piece cover without the round access plate for the 107". I have only had bike for a few weeks and bought from an insurance company so I do not have access to any of the bikes history.

On a 2004 big dog the stock setup as it came from big dog would have the pickup unit inside the nosecone then the actual thunderheart (ignition) module would be an aluminum unit under your seat and it would have been a dual fire system as well. Now most of us with this setup have switched to an self contained aftermarket unit that all fits under the nosecone utilizing the cam sensor pickup. The newer bigdogs that have what seem to be what your explaining have a solid cover as you stated, ignition module system under the seat and a crank sensor pickup instead of a cam sensor. They are also a single fire system. In this case you could by the same type of aftermarket system. Couple questions you might try to ask are: Is this the stock motor ? Do the numbers match? Someone could have changed this stock system but we would not be able to help without some pics.

Thanks , I will pull off cam cover tomorrow and see what I can see when it is opened up. I believe it has the stock 107" but don't have any history of any changeovers. Will snap a few pictures and display them and might help solve the confusion. Does your 04 have the access cover on camshaft cover?

I need to take off cam cover and see what I have for a timing sensor as I don't think that it is original? Thanks I will keep in touch.

EHC FREE!!!!
Here are some pics of my ignition swap. My son helped out. This is before I swapped out the EHC for the Wire Plus module. I replaced the stock ignition with a Crane Hi4. Very happy with it, but my tach has not read right ever since. I think it is because the thunderheart has one pick up and the Crane has two.
