Another Clutch Cable Question

Why is something that is mechanically so simple sometimes so difficult ??

Background: 06 K9 - Karata open primary - first clutch cable snapped at 5000 miles - second Barnett cable went at 8600 miles (dealer installed) - both ferrules snapped at the ball / ramp assembly.

After the second cable snapped, I figured I would change the cable myself so I picked up a Drag Specialties cable locally. Installed, lubed and adjusted the cable / clutch and everything seemed to be working fine -- normal pull (for an 06 K9) with no clutch slipping or grabbing. Get about 100 miles on the cable and the ferrule snaps again at the ball / ramp assembly.

I will pull the cable tonight and check the assembly to see if it has any sharp edges that might be cutting into the cable.

Do you think the DS cable was too weak for the dog?

Could I have screwed up the adjustment ?

Should I be checking anything else?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Gas....

Yeah, the thought about the need to check the springs hit me late last night. I'm not sure which ones are in there as it was dealer installed but definitely gonna take a look and see.

Thanks.

What about installing an easy pull from BD. That should give you some mechanical advantage and take some of the stress off of the cable also.

I just know that the gold ones are the super stiffs. You may be able to back it down to the dark grays.

That being said, I was running the gold 5 coil springs with no problems.
