well i'm posting this for my dad because he is too man enough to ask for help haha...

me and him were out riding tonight, mine an 02 honda F4i and his 02 husky...

well anyway we're about to come up to a stop sign and his bike just starts backfiring really bad, a little bit of blue flames even came out... and it died...

so we sit there for a second trying to think what happened and about 10 seconds later he tries to start it and it doesn't start... so we push it into a parking lot and he tries to start it... then it was like the power just got drained from the battery... all the lights shut off and when you turned the key nothing came on...

so we got the truck and trailered it back home and looked it over and the fuel wasn't turned on all the way...

my thought is that the fuel pump was working too hard from the flow not being all the way up... and it crapped out or something but that doesn't explain why the battery drained in about 60 seconds...

we also just put gas in it because it was low and hopefully it just ran out of gas... but that doesn't explain why the battery drained either...

i see a lot of people talking about the EHC? and like it might have something to do with the charging of the battery... i don't know anything about his type of bike so i'm kinda just shooting in the dark right now haha...

any thoughts? thanks

no fuel pump.. its got a carb right???? & it may have not been charging for a while.. then just ran down.. get the battery charged,, get it running,, then check the charging sys,,, keep the fuel ON........

ok... i'm only 19 and i've had FI my whole life so i didn't know if it was carbed that it didn't have a fuel pump lol

we charged the battery up and when we turned the key the battery was already dead so looks like the battery is the culprit in the electrical department...

but what about the backfiring and dying? would that have been caused by the fuel not being turned on all the way? and if it ran out of gas would it have backfired like that???

thanks for the help

dead batteries do some strainge things in these bikes.... may have had issues with back firing.. get a bat,, get it running,, then check the charging sys,,, lots of info here.. just try that 1st.. dont jump the bike off .. get a good battery...... do a search lots of threads here on this..

I use HD Softail batts.....they are high CCA and appear to be good product.
