Baker-6 Ratchet Shift Pawl Assembly - NEEDED for an '04 Chopper!

I need to replace the Drivetrain Anti-Overshift Ratchet Shift Pawl Assembly on my BD 2004 Chopper. It's the 107cc with the Rolling Thunder frame, and a Baker-6.

The forward control went limp on me and a stop, and pushing it home was a bitch...

To add to the insult, my local dealer won't order the part for me unless he does the work.

I've had the trans open and a buddy rides a Harley with a Baker-6, but we've compared guts and they appear to be a different part - small differences, but enough.

On-line I've found about a dozen Ratchet Shift Pawl Assemblies with that many part numbers. Anyone know what I need on the '04 Chopper (107)?

I am damn sure this is what I am looking for:

BAKER DRIVETRAIN ANTI-OVERSHIFT RATCHET SHIFT PAWL ASSEMBLY from Drag Specialties / Fatbook

Just don't know which one I need for my trans. I'm a newbie working on these big V-Twins.

Desperately want to squeeze the last days of Midwest riding out of the Dog, and run Toys For Tots to close out the year in Chicago. And I'd rather not do it on my Honda.

Much Appreciated,
-MP

On an 04 your shifter is neither Baker or Bigdog it is made by Jims
What I wood do is take out the shift pawl and reweld it as Ive done it a bunch of times just make sure you get a good welder cause thats a lot of work to redo for a shitty weld job as if you dont have it out and want to know that Im right pull the top cover and look at the pawl and you can see it as its a common issue it is the weld from the lever to the shaft that runs out to the external shifter if you buy a new one make sure the distance is identical on the spacing bewteen the teeth or it wont shift rite

Yea... we tried to weld it and all I got was about 600 miles out of it, the ended up having to push the Chopper 1.5 miles home when it failed.

I'm not a welder by trade and don't have access (or skills to use) anything more than spot-welding with a tig. It's not pretty and not structural. And apparently it can't handle the vibration.

I'm really interested in replacing the component. On long rides, I ride the hell out of that bike and being "lucky" enough to only have to push it a mile and a half home is nothing compared to it breaking 3- or 400 miles out. It's not the kind of machine you leave on the side of the road to come back fore in a day. Ya know.

We're looking for a shop that can do the weld for me, but in the meantime - if anyone has a link to the right "pawl assembly" or a part number, I would be much obliged.

RubWhore - Beautiful bikes by the way. I'm also looking for a viable 18' Sissy-bar assembly for the '04 Chopper. The 2 BD dealers I called said BD has an "issue" with their manufacture and cant get the assembly kits anymore (for any model). Found the 2-up seat , but no bar, rack or back-rest.

Thanks,

If you get on ebay look up shovelheadkicker as a while back he had boxes of the pawls and was selling them for 35 bucks a piece
Heres the Bigdog part number:BDM110-00190 ASSY, SHIFT PAWL and of course its not available from them
your other option is to call Scott in tech support at Baker 1-877-640-2004

Was broke right where I said too wasnt it, used to see that problem on left side drive
bigDogs all the time
