Big Dog for Dummis

I bought a Big Dog from US, and it arrived ti Norway yesterday, finnaly.

I have had several HD throug the years, but when I was looking over the BD I saw something tha I have not seen before.

Maybe you guys can help me out, it was a box in aluminium with a red light, placed close to the battery?

I feel a little bit stupid asking this question but I don understand what it is?
