bike dying while driving

Ok, my buddys internet is down, so he isn't a member yet, but it's going to happen soon! That being said...he rode his bike for the 2nd time tonight...first time was in florida about 3 weeks ago when he bought it. He says the bike wouldn't start and he jumped it off from his truck battery with the truck not running. Got the bike going and took off down the road about 10 miles. All of the sudden he says it just dies...he is still rolling so just pops the clutch and it fires back up...goes about 1-2 miles and it does it again and again and again...all the way home??? The only thing he has done to it was pulled the exhaust(stock one) off and had the stock pipes coming straight out of the header. It is a 2005 chopper. Anyone have any ideas where he should start???

not sure what you mean took the stock pipe off and has the stock pipe coming straight out,are you talking about the baffle?did it do this before he took the pipe off?maybe gas cap vent but we need more info,is this a carb bike or injected

He told me he just took the stock exhaust apart and cut it where it is a real shorty coming straight out of the heads. It is a carb bike.

ummmmmmm...... yeah...... so your buddy cut his exhaust off besides maybe a foot of it and ya jumped it wit the truck now the bike wont run 4 shit?? get an exhaust on the bike it needs more than what he has now!! then FULLY charge the battery if you are not going to use the stock exhaust you NEED to re-jet the carb!!! take it somwhere and have them dyno tune the bike then run the shit out of it!!!

the guys are right... It may be lean enough to cut off. If its cutting off when throttling up it may be running out of gas. Other than that make sure the battery terminals are tight. And when the key is on see if there is alot a slop in the key. the tumblers in the older switchs would wear out quick. Sometimes you can turn the key on and pull it out.

Good possibility the ignition switch has failed. Mine would do the same thing until I put a new switch in.

If the whole bike shuts down no lights no gauge no tach, check the battery cables, my 04 would shut down and the battery cable was broke internally
