Broken clutch ?

Yesterday when riding my 02 Bulldog, shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, there was a small 'bang' and a rattling noise, before I engaged the clutch handle. The engine runs OK, but no power to the drive belt. Neutral OK, but when releasing the clutch handle (in all gears) there is a rattling noise from the gearbox area and no power. I can se a little pulsating movement on the pulley that drives the belt, and feel a little forward thrust.
I think the clutch is somehow broken - any better diagnose - and what to do ??
Thanx for any advice

Thank you for advice. They turned out to be right (was hoping for a broken clutch, but the clutch is healthy...)

But what is the best thing to do then?
Is there a repair kit?
Or better to buy a new Baker tranny? (I got a -02 Bulldog with a 6-speed Baker with the drive on the left side)
Or are there alternatives to the Baker that will fit the Bulldog?

Grateful for advices!

send it to baker or bigdogtech01 and have it rebuilt, probably your best choice unless you have other choices on your side of the pond. if you can rebuild it, get the parts and do it yourself.

It's not good my friend.....mainshaft could be the problem but your going to have to pull your drive train and inspect your clutch unit for defects if that checks out move to the tranny for further inspection....

My tranny blew wiping out a bunch gears bearings and mainshaft....i got it on the bench waiting for $$$ to buy replacement parts....meanwhile i'm running a
"Prowler" OD-6 that a buddy loaned me that he picked up because his "Baker" blew and he was ran it until "Baker" rebuilt his tranny...and I got to tell you this tranny shifts better than my "Baker"....sometimes when I drop it into 1st I cant even tell it's in gear until I release the clutch...I think my buddy said it came with a 3 year / 10K mile warranty....Paid $800 -$900.for it I think....

McGroom is a member of this website and is an authorized distributor for "Baker" he 's my go to guy for Baker parts and other accessories....:2thumbs:

I would contact bigdogtech01 and let him get you up and running. He will fix and give you an 18 month warranty. Baker will not do that. He fixed me up on my tranny and is smooth and I have had no problems. I hate a down bike now that the weather is warming up. My tranny was referb. during the winter. Hope things go well on getting it up and running.

My Bulldog is up and barking again
Clutch was OK
Baker tranny was OK
But the "spline" outgoing axle/ pulley that drives the belt was broken. Had to get a new pulley

Thanks for advices
