Hey all

I had my mobile mechanic come over to finish a job he was working on today.

My 2002 ProSport, here's the pic:

It had an little oil leak from the derby cover.
See here:

My guy ordered a new gasket, replaced it and also replaced the camshaft seal.

He came over today while I was at work.
My roomie (2006 Pitbull) was here and watched him do the work.

While inside the bike that cover they found this broken part.....laying on the bottom of the engine case housing cavity.
See pic here:

The mechanic, who has years of experience, was not sure what it was. It looks like a washer of some sort. But it didnt look there was anything it would fit on. They looked and looked and couldn't even see where it came from.

I know the old tale about mechanics and "extra parts" at the end of the job.....

so I ask ya'll: PLEASE HELP!

Thanks~

MARV - Thanks!

So now I ask: Is it critical?

Certainly I rode it with it broken......right?

Will I do further damage?

Thanks again in advance.

i'd have to refer to john sachs for more info but for 1 its a spacer and not having it is gonna give you tolerance problems plus 2 you have some pieces floating around which will end up in your oil pump. so yea i'd say its critical.

If there is not one on the end of the cam, you are going to have way too much end play. The cam will slide back and forth and ruin cam and possibly lifters.

"The mechanic, who has years of experience, was not sure what it was"

If your mechanic had years of experience, he would know what the washer was.
