Not sure what carb you have but I have the PSI Big Air and I can replace the cables without removing the carb.

If stock, it should be the S&S Super G. It is not a big deal to pull the carb and install the cables.

New problem on 02 ProSport! I have checked this rag, and other sites and cannot find out why after adjusting my throttle and idle cables I still have a sticky throtle after popping back on the throttle cable. The idle comes back down but just to about 1000 rpms then if I just push forward just a tad, it comes down to it's reg. 850 rpm. I try and adjust the difference between both cables and it runs and sounds good, but just won't idel back down on it's own. The cables are both new and lubed. Seems like something is catching either in the switchhousing or on the throttle body like the nut on the throttle plate is to tight.....help!..........scooter

Make sure that you don't have the throttle grip pushed all the way up against the handlebar. After it is installed you should be able to grab it and feel a little bit of play in and out. As for cable adjustment, take most of the slack out of both cables before moving the throttle. Adjust the throttle side until you can open the throttle and see that either the stop on the "throttle plate" as you called it contacts the carb body, or the butterfly in the carb looks wide open (you will have to remove the air cleaner for this). Then adjust the slack out of the idle cable. After both cables are adjusted, you should feel a little play in the throttle. It sounds like you have adjusted the throttle side too tight and the grip in catching the housing, or the cable ferrel in the housing isn't seated right.
