I was with a friend at a AIH dealer and they told him after cleaning his air filter not to use the OIL. Is this right? I thought the reusable filters had to have oil put on them to work properly???

I'll assume up front that this is a K&N (or AFe or similar) type filter. They MUST BE OILED. The oil is what is catching a good portion of the dust and dirt.

Recommend your friend find another shop. You have plenty in your area.

Thats what I thought. If it's a filter that can be cleaned and re used it had to be oiled

Thanks

Well what is it carb or fuel injection? If you get oil on the map sensor from the k/n this could cause problems.I dont have fuel injected bike but my car has one.Been there done that.

As the others have said, if it is a K & N or other similar type, it is designed to work with the oil. Best to follow the instruction of the filter manufacture's for some reason or another, I have a feeling that the maker of the filter has spent more R&D than the AIH tech on the filters they make.

May have to switch back to a paper filter, or be extremely careful not to over-oil ???
