Hey all, I was out riding and my 05 chopper and clutch went slack. But it seemed the clutch got stuck in the open mode, because i lost all movement i had all gears but no movement.

If cable had broke i would have been able to ride it home.

After searching i pulled primary cover and cltch hub seems tight , (i got to re-borrow a socket) to really tell, guess i need to buy 1 for sure now.

anyways what would jam my clutch open and make cable go slack???

Holy crap i think its in the tranny that i had just rebuilt last year. I can turn both sprocket and clutch hub and i get no tire movement.:bang:

I want to pitch my tranny through Bakers window

I am really dissiapointed 2 years in a row begining of summer and i got tranny problems. WTF BAKER POS. 5-6k rebuild cause i was sucking primary fluid into the tranny and flowing out the tranny breather tube. figure out what is going on get tranny rebuilt, put on about 1000 miles and i got a blown main shaft at 65 mph. Now i could see if i'am laying rubber and riding hard. but not even..

next time i put this thing together i guess i need to beet the shit out of the MF maybe it would last longer.

Well enough for my rant, i will waiste a nice weekend and not be riding and waite till tuesday to chew some baker ass that will get me know where..hahhaha.

I think im going to look at upgrading to whole new diffrent unit , i cant see putting the same POS Baker DSSC in in my bike. After reading pages of ruined trannies POS Bakers. Im supprised there is no class action lawsuit on these trannies, i guess no one has been killed by a DSSC yet??

Any sugestions appriciated , if i offended anyone sorry but honestly

WTF BAKER

I don't think the tranny would make the clutch cable go slack...I would look into why the cable went slack first....maybe clutch hub? I think your year had problemos with that....just a thought...

I can't remember but didn't the 05 have clutch carrier issues with them breaking?

Neil is spot on; the 05 models did have the carrier issues. I would check that and recheck the clutch hub nut. If it's not that it could be a stretched or broken cable, try readjusting the cable if you find nothing on the inspection...

Clutch basket is perfect

Its the Main shaft is broken i can spin the main shaft on one side and it dont move on the other side , and it sure seems to shift through the gears.

It will be on the way back to baker. when you read how many guys have had broken shafts, Im surprised really there has been no total recall.

Scott at baker wont like me on Tuesday :) , After i told him it was BS that tranny bearings would be junk at 5k miles and now 1k on a rebuild , they should be given mainshafts out when a person is buying bearings for there POS DSSC ,

I hope they make a better unit now ?, i really dont want to rebuild this POS and put it on my bike. Especially how much shit has been on that tranny cluctch basket went long ago , then tranny bearings , now main shaft ,,,, how much Fricken metal has been in the damn thing. Its always in the beginning of summer too

I think i would rather buy a whole new primary and tranny with starter , isnt there some newer DSSC 6?? will it fit on an 05 DOG? Guess ill find out tuesday.

I don't understand it, Andrew offered to rebuild your tranny for you last year and he warned you about the main shaft and stated that there was a new and improved main shaft out there that was more reliable. He even offered an 18 month warranty with his rebuild. At least if you would have sent it to Baker they would have fixed it for you under warranty, but you decided to take it to the local guy here in town. So, why are you so mad at Baker?

Im just mad that so many Big Dog owners have this problem at few miles on there tranny, and that baker should fix it. the local guy dose Baker work ,he is a baker dealer and listed on there site and seemed scott dintnd really seem like there was any better parts yes i did ask about the new main shaft but i didnt get it , and my bike was well out of warranty, im in warranty on the tranny rebuild from the guy but not because of a broken shaft.

My Baker DSSC 2005 experience

I got bike it had 500 miles on it, it seems to me arround lets say 1500 miles to 3000 miles
i had the clutch basket issue, i did not work on it then i took it to warranty the work from Big Dog. If i had seen how much the basket had ate out the inner primary, maybe someone might have checked bearings then.. i feel this is when the stress was put onto the tranny mainshaft seal & bearings.

So then i rode and faught oil leaks 5-7k miles ( i changed speedo got 1 from Steve i had a crack in mine),, not realizing that primary fluid was being sucked into the tranny and comming out the tranny vent tube, and i believe this had some metal left over maybe from the basket damage. This didnt help the stressed bearings, and lead to the tranny bearings to become junk.I was well past the warranty on the bike by then. so i found this forum and started to fix it.

So for me at most was 7k miles on bearings are junk

Is it junk bearings? was it the stress of the basket break that junked bearings

I do know that it should last longer then 7k miles.

Now after having problems with this DSSC for so long, i dont even trust it on my bike. I am Mad at baker, its not S&S fault , its not BDM fault Its is Bakers fault for what ever reason they want to use, the installed the clutch baskets , the bearings , and the main shaft. If BDM made them use cheap parts its still on Baker to me.

Thats my morning joe chat , ill will see tuesday whats in store next , someday i will get to ride with the NW guys:)

Everyone have a great 4th oh July, stay safe !! and insane !!

Its tough finding a shop that does good work. Ive taken to doing all my own work from now on for these same reasons.
I switched my clutch basket out with the Bruiser unit. Im really glad I did to because my basket was warped and has tiny stress cracks in it. This was all discovered by me after a supposedly reputable shop had just replaced the motor.

DSSC is a POS and Baker is aware of the defect and are skirting the issue.

Clay - there is an alternatve if u or have someone that can weld. Chang the trans mounting plate on the frame. I have a bud with a K9 who did it. Welded in stock plate and repaced it with a Revtec 6 & open primary. You also have to change the starter. Now all will be stock Evo set up. i'll be doing ame in next month or so.

Shipped tranny out to Baker today. The Local guy was busy anyways, and he thought Baker should look at it. Its going to be awhile before im riding again, and summer just got here ,sux. Guess ill be spending more time with the 2 Camaro's:). Sounded like 3 weeks wait there at baker and almost 1 week each way, so arround middle of August maybe.

Honestly with under 8k on the bike. Pretty Damn Sad you could not ride from coast to coast.

If there is a next time im going to bust the thing apart myself, Maybe i better look for a used one buy and have on the shelf. I sure dont like having to ship stuff out to have it worked on.

I had a counter shaft bolt go out on the tranny service bulletin that should have been done on the bike but was not done by former owner. I got ahold of Andrew and he got me fixed up and rebuilt the whole tranny with 18 mo. warranty. He stands behind his work. I replaced the main shaft with the hardened one. He had tranny back in a week.

Yes , i should have had Andrew do it last time. I guess i just hate shipping something that shouldnt be rocket science halfway arround the country.

I would have sent it to him this time, but i see he was on vacation enjoying life:)

I will try and give Scott @Baker a chance to treat me right.
