Clutch Hub Nut, what size and thread

Hey guys, can some one tell me whats the size and thread of the nut that holds the clutch hub on, it's the only left hand threaded nut on the bike? I'm restoring an 04 mastiff and when I was changing out the clutch I noticed that the nut was missing. Not sure if I can pick it up at the local auto shop or if I'll have to go to the Big Dog dealer. Thanks!

I read through it but there's nothing in there that says what the size and the thread of the nut needs to be only that it's left hand and it gives the torque specs. Thanks though, that's a really good write up.

I thought it was in there. I read it somewhere but can't find the thread.

It is either 31 or 33mm.

Insert title here...
Neither the clutch nor the crank nut are metric... at least not on my bike. The only metric bolts on my K-9 are the 10mm bolts holding the battery cables on!

The clutch nut is 1-3/16" and the crank nut is 1-5/16". Very close to 31mm and 33mm so depending on who makes your sockets they might work. But why not use the right size in the first place? :D

I just found this in another post...

Good to know that it worked for you all. On mine it is a little tight but would go on with a slight tap. That said no need to since I have the 1-3/16" socket as suggested by Baker:

"Remove the following parts from the primary roughly in the following order:• Starter; 9/16 hex for battery feed and 2X3/8-16 with 5/16 allen for flange. It is not necessary to remove the starter from behind the transmission. Let starter lay on back of transmission case during O.E. primary removal and belt drive installation.• Outer primary; 14X1/4-20 cap screws, 3/16” allen• M Motor sprocket nut; 1-5/16 socket with impact. Set nut and washer aside. It will be re-used on the belt drive motor pulley• Chain adjustment shoe nut; 9/16” socket• Remove throwout bearing on clutch with medium size snap ring pliers• Remove clutch nut with 1-3/16” socket and ½” impact gun. NOTE: lefthand threads, clockwise to loosen• Remove clutch, motor sprocket, and chain as a complete assembly"

As posted before, proper is 1-3/16" for clutch and 1-5/16" for engine. As GasMan indicated, 30mm may work if that is what you have at hand, not sure of what metric would work on the engine side, but the two SAE sizes will work!
Bon Apetit!

Great post DRBarnheart. That is exactly what I was looking trying to find yesterday. I subscribed to the thread this time.

remembered quoted info from previous long time ago posts which included SAE and metric but just couldn't remember what final judgment was. thanks for digging deeper, Dennis.

I use a 33mm (motor sprocket) and a 30mm (clutch hub) on mine - works perfect. I just ordered the shim for the clutch hub from Nelson too so will be testing that tool I made in the next couple of weeks. Feedback to follow.
