Im replacing clutch on my 06 mastiff changing to 9 disc. I didnt have to remove the big nut but was wondering if its recommended to remove it to check bearing behing it.

If you haven't taken the clutch hub nut off before I would just to retorque it and see if you still have the original cast carrier that will eventually break. Originally the hub nut was torqued to 80 ft/lbs which nobody does anymore as it always would come loose. Red & 130-150 Ft/lbs then you never have to worry about it again. Obviously might as well check the bearing while you can but those bearings usually require some kind of malfunction to get damaged like a broken carrier or loose hub nut, they are pretty durable.

Those 4 bolts are 20 ft/lbs with Red. You can find a torque reference sheet at the below link.

If you decide to upgrade the billet carrier and never have to worry about it.

Keep in mind if you change from a 12 disc to a 9 disk you will need to order a different Ball & Ramp. My understanding (not experience) is that there is no big advantage to changing to a 9 disk for regular street use. Someone else on the site may be able to explain why the change should be made.
