D&M twister mount on a 04 Pitbull

Energy One
Okay been dealing with this for some time and have done the reading on this.. I have the typical coughing through the carb at about 70 in 6th gear.. I have a 04 pitbull with the dual tanks anybody mounted their filter vertical on this bike? I have tried but the filter does not clear the tank.. Thinking about having a bracket made to change the mount.. Not sure if this or jetting would be the way to go.

Remember to pull the float bowl vent out as recommended by S&S for this type of setup

Jetting! Make sure the caps are on the intake manifold. That you are not sucking air. Do you know what size jet are in your carb?

Raywood can you work with the slow guy on this? I have a K&N filter on the intake side to stop debris from entering but not sure what you mean by float bowl vent. I will check on the S&S website. I see its number 8 on the picture but what needs to be removed from the vent?

Coolbreeze, I am running the standard stock jets on this. I used a K&N filter to cover the intake side as some members have done on the website. I am going to check the S&S website about the float bowl vent as raywood suggested and will work the problem back to jetting.

Right out of the S&S manual...

"Bowl vent screw should be removed for any all-out racing application which includes use of air horn or air cleaner without filter element. Exposed passage in carb body maintains equal pressure between float bowl and atmosphere."

Dennis

PS. Also keep in mind that 70 is towards the lower end for 6th gear as per your owner's manual...

PSS. Have you run it without the filter?

Dennis I guarantee i did not remove that screw now that is something I am going to look at. Thanks guys maybe its that simple. No I have not run it without the air filter either. I will look to see if the screw was removed tomorrow. I have had the filter on for over a year now anything to sweat as far as screwing up the motor?
Thanks

Sorry, when you mentioned "tanks" and "filter" I was thinking you meant fuel filter...

Not really.

And as far as taking out that screw... it'll either run better or not but it won't hurt anything to give it a shot! :D

I have the D&M spike air filter on my bike running it horizonaly. Had the coughing and stumble at around 72 to 75 mph. I removed the vent screw and it didn't help mine. Rejetted with a 32-76. This combo fixed mine. The only time it feels like it wants to stumble is if the temp is in the low 40's and running 72 to 75 mph. If its warmer than this I have had no problems. Bike has been running great since this combo.

Yea, With the pipes you are running , you should have jetted it up long before the aircleaner. Try a 32 intermediat and 76 or78 main. Then follow the tuning instructions from S&S.

I had the same "cough" around 70mph. Increase the intermediate to 32 or 33. I'm running a 78 on the main jet. That fixed my cough.

alright, first i am going to remove the vent screw see how it runs. then look at jetting if the problem is still there.

Raywood and dennis you guys are the winners! removed the vent screw and went for a ride today no coughs through the carb. Thanks guys been dealing with this for about a year now today was a good ride!

Sure will, I know the area pretty good. I lived in Oceanside when I was stationed there a few years ago and commuted 100 miles a day to 32nd street. Will be there in Palm Springs by the end of the month.
