DO I NEED TO REMOVE THE GAS TANK

Hello all you fellow Doggers. I bought a Dakota Speedometer since my original BD speedo fogs up all the time. So been looking at how to do the switch. I am not sure if I need to pull the gas tank to disconnect the speedo. Or does it disconnect somewhere in the housing? I did take the speedo off the mounting bracket. But I didn't see any way that this comes apart. So I know someone out there has the answer. I have a 04 Chopper with a RT frame. Thanks!

No you don't need to remove the tank

I am thinking about getting one
I do have a question, When I turn my ignition on I have to wait the for the needle on the tach to sweep up then back before I start the bike.

With the Dakota being all digital how would that work? or do the leds sweep up then back down

I used the ball-headed allen wrenches and the ability to go at an angle helps, with the tank still on. :2thumbs:


FST954, there is no indication of anything happening on the Dakota. I beleive that sweep is the EHC self check, I just pause a couple of seconds after turning on the key then start.
