Hello - I need help

This looks like the right place for a good answer - my 2004 Mastiff oil cap came apart - screw holding the metal cap to the rubber plug appearanly fell into the oil tank. Can't seem to find it with a magnet - any suggestions on how to get it withot removing the tank - or will it end up in the oil pump (I would assume there is a screen between the tank and pump to keep debris out)

Are you sure it's in there and not somewhere in your battery compartment?

If you are sure it's in the tank, drain the tank & get it out.

I'm surprised you didn't get it out with a magnet.

Not sure - metal cap was in the compartment - I'd assume the screw had to have fallen in. Can't get to the right side of the tank - the return lines are in the way - magnet didn't pick it up on the left side.

you might try a bendable magnet if you arnt already.they come in handy for gettn around corners

ok grumps,i just did some invetagaten{investagating} i have an 04 mastiff and i have a stock oil cap that fit sloppy so i replaced it.i just tore it apart.there is no screw in the middle.the rubber is held on to the chrome cap with some kind of glue.hope this helps

I put a screw in the cap. My oil cap would pop out that bag it was so loose, I put a wood dowel in the rubber thingy to spread the rubber plug then put a screw through the chrome cap into the dowel. I'm a cheap basturd.

wow,now you have a chance of dropping that screw into the tank,would have been better off throwing that cap in the round file and using a rag.thats just my 2 cents.i cant afford the dealer and do my own repairs but again WOW!LOL

Mob the screws on the outside of the chrome cap, it cant fall in the bag. I'm a dumass but not a stupid dumass. :up: The only thing that can fall in the bag is the wooden dowel but it's tight as hell in the rubber plug
