Well 8500 miles on my 05 Ridgeback and i think im screwed.

Bike has been backfiring and shooting a flame out of the rear cylinder and falling on it's face / stalling as you get on it around 3000 rpms. thought it was jetting but no such luck.

The shop that has it said they think it is in the connection on the EHC, either a pin or the hole the pin goes in is bad...no idea which one at this point. The reason they beleive it is the problen is the tray the EHC sits in is loose and bouncing all over under revs. They held the top of the EHC down slightly and no miss fire.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Get out the multimeter and check the pins. Carefully remove the connector from the EHC and check all the pins to make sure one is not borken on the EHC. If all are good, check the connectors and work you way through the harness and JST connectors.

Also since it is backfiring, get the schematic and look through it very good and focus on only the pins that could cause such.

Also if all good, make sure you secure the EHC to the tray with nuts if the studs on the back side are still good, if not, double sided tape (the 3M type used in automotive and industrial application) or some other mean to secure.

Check all the wiriing including the ignition circuit, igniton switch, coils etc.

Take you time and you may find it is simple a chaffed or loose connections.

Try to nail it down first and comfirm the problem before buying a PDM or WP.

If you go with a PDM you get a complete harness and connectors to the sub-groups. If you go with a WP and barring no bad wires between the WP and the sub-connectors, you will be able to get going also, however if you do go with a WP and the problem is not the EHC, and say a bad wire up the harness or a bad pin, poor connection at one of the JST connectors, the problem may still be there after you change out.

Best to nail down the problem first and then make a decission. If you are not confident or experience with troubleing shooting cirucits and wire, see if one of the other members on here that may be close by, that is can help or find a confident shop that knows what they are doing.

Shop is talking about changing out the ignition to a stand alone in the nose cone.
Does this sound right?
