I have a XXX carb and it seems to "sneeze" a little in the carb. Especially at low speeds like cruising downtown and stopping at stop lights. It seems to do this more at these stop and idle for a while and low speed cruising. Also, it has quite a bit of decel popping. Any ideas???

the sneezing may mean your running lean and it sounds like your intermediate jet - swap it out for the next size up and see if it helps - you may also want to richen up your idle screw 1/4 to 1/2 a turn - decel popping you may not get rid of so easy - what pipes do you have?

I like those baffles.

Sounds like you're talking about a "pop", "pop" sound on decel, right?

Not the sound associated with open pipes like a large diesel, engine braking, right?

Again, that's carb tuning, if I'm getting you right.

Check your mixture screw first but, it really sounds like you need to spend some time jetting that carb.

I just doubt you will get rid of all the popping with those pipes - I actually like it

yeah.....everyone is right on the decel pop......you can get it so it doesn't pop as much...but with the BR pipes...you will always get a little decel with those pipes.....

I have BR pipes with the stock baffle and stock carb - no decel popping at all. If I turn the mix in 1/4 turn, it will pop like crazy - back it out again, and it all smooths out.

My'06 Mastiff with stock everything and the big radius pipes has never had a decel pop. P8RIOT has a great suggestion.

Is your RPM around 2600-2750 area?

That is the top end of the int jet. You're running lean. For some reason those boys at XXX always send them a bit lean. You probably have a .295 in it and need to go to a .31 and readjust the carb. There is a how to on pulling jets... but basically dump the bowl and go from there.

(some) Decel popping is pretty normal.

Some stock pipes even have air injected (anti-smog stuff) in them so that the remaining fuel ignites easier in the muffler. You usually don't hear it in those pipes because they're so restrictive already that you just don't hear it popping.

If you're not popping at all, you're not tuned for maximum power, IMO.

I guess the debate still stands...

Sneeze through the carb or pop out the exhaust...
