Below is the example of not taking your time and not using locktite.

I think it was on Lee's what a dick thread where I said that I had a hat trick for that day

I ran out of gas:down:
my buddy dumped his new electra glide:job:
and my other buddy swallowed a bolt that holds you air cleaner on.

I told him to take his time but he rushed. only put 2 out of 3 bolts on and did not use any locktite.:spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

I was not watching him do this unfortunatly.:bang: :bang: :bang:

Would have been a whole lot more expensive if I was not wrenching.

new head, piston, and gaskets around $400

That's a great lesson right there, Hoat - a wonderful opportunity to learn from someone ELSE's expensive mistakes.

Not only do you have to remember Loctite, you have to clean the parts completely, sometimes use primer first, and then apply the right KIND of Loctite. The shop manuals are very specific about this.

got lucky that it was the front head in that its easy to get to, and that was one of the bolts that holds the air cleaner on a twin cam.

First time I ever tore down a twin cam. taking the bolts out is easy. putting them back in to the correct toque and in the right order is what takes time.

That guy owes me alot more than that!!!!!! I told him he has to make my dog shine!!! and I mean spotless!

seriously I don't mind helping out. I like to wrench. Sitting behind a desk all day sucks

Damn Buddy! Glad you only ran out of gas (We all do that at one time or another). That's some great picture of the bolt....I got three kinds locktite lying around all over the garage. It should never be too far away. Even have some blue in the tool roll...

I learned that lesson at about 16. Good friend of mine had a strong 454 in his monte. He had a friend of his playing with his choke plate and left a screw loose. Welded itself to the piston and had to come apart. That is one of the many reasons you see intake manifold screens of most new cars and import bikes.
