Installing S&S 600 Cam

Ok just wondering if this is common problem or not i am changeing out the cam in my 07 K-9 the shop called said they can't get the adj push rods to adjust far enough to take them out that they will have to pull the top end apart to get them out is this common or did they put in the wrong push rods from Big dog ?

Push rods do not need pulled to do the cam install !!!

Some times when it's cold out the oil is thicker (of course) and it can take some time (like 15-20 minutes) for the lifters to bleed down. It's like watching paint dry....that's why you do one at a time.....

Like BDM said, they dont need to come out, just backed off. Hope your not paying this shop if this is what they told you!

Did you confirm that you have the red stripped S&S 640 springs?

Yes i have the 640 springs gas see here in bumb *uck iowa we don't have a decent shop to work on bikes i do most stuff myself but i had never tore into the motor so i took it to my local HD dealer they gave me a price of 350 bucks to do the Cam install and a 100 to do the Thunderjet then they called said they couldn't get the push rods out that they would have to tear the top end of motor apart to get them out to do the cam so now with labor it cost me 900 bucks Screwed by HD again go figure Next time ill do it myself thanks Guys for the Info

wow, in order to pull the push rods out is a matter of easily removing the rocker box covers, and then the rocker housing..... doesn't seem like it'd take an extra $450 in labor.....sry to hear that.:down: Hope it's right, just don't seem it....

Yeah they shouldn't have to do that either. And it shouldnt cost that much. I would just yank my bike out of there and not give em a single dime. They should know better! Its just an evo motor. $900 to swap out a cam is a complete RIP OFF!

Thanks GUys with some complaining and a call to S&S Tech with my harley shop i got it out of there for 400 bucks and that was with them also installing my Thunderjet without you all i wouldn't have known they were ripping me off

Hey we didn't do anything. Just trying to help watch out. Allot of these hd shops around see you with your bling bling bdm and figure you have disposable income and charge ya accordingly.
