Mike was always so excited prior to the Gathering . The hours we spent on the phone while he relived every detail of the Gathering. I felt like I knew y'all. After speaking to a few of his brothers yesterday, especially Mr Keenan , I realized that Mike finally found his tribe and the father he never had. This is not a dig at his biological parents. They were much older and set in their ways by the time Michael came along. Mom never recovered from post partium depression and Dad did his best. Back then, his best was as provider.
I digress, Kris owner of the Acme bar and grill in Murrell's Inlet, our neighbor and dearest friend has stepped up to handle Mike's cremation and will make sure his remains are sent to Arkansas. My heart is overflowing with love and respect for each and every one of you for loving my love in a way no one has ever been able to. Hindsight being what it is, I didn't realize until I spoke with David yesterday that behind his gruff facade was a man that needed to feel safe to just be himself- he found that with Mr Keenan.
Once Kris is able to get into Mike's house my plan is to have her find his vest and send it to Mr Keenan. It's only fitting , in my mind , that his vest and ashes travel together on his final runs. Snicker doodle Lady, a few of your delicious hour worthy commentary by Mike- I think I gained weight listening to his diatribe, crumbled in with his ashes would be a beautiful addition. I can almost feel him smiling at the thought. My only other request is if anyone has taken pictures to memorize his run to please forward them to my email so I can create an album for myself.( luvz2ride71@gmail.com)
As much as I'm going to miss talking to him. My heart is overflowing with happiness knowing his final wishes were fulfilled with his tribe of family.
Sending love and hugs of profound gratitude to each and every one of you. We all carry a piece of our Mike with us . Until we meet again Michael
