JST Connectors

Hi , I just get done putting a new plug on my front blinker lights on my 2005 Big Dog Chopper. I got the new plugs from Curtis. Can anyone advise me how to get the old pins out of the plugs? If there is a way or are they to small? There most be some trick to it. I even cut the old one open to see if I could get a btter Idea of how they work. Is there a special tool to do this with? Any advise would be welcomed.

There is a small metal tab on the pin that snaps into the connector. If you have something small enough( small paperclip or a small sewing needle may work) you can carefully push the tab and pull it out. If you mess it up you will just need to crimp new pins on the wires and snap into the new connector. When you look into the connector, there is a hole above where the pin sticks out, that's where the tab is.

On a JST plug, there is a small tab sticking out from in between where the male pins stick out (or from in between where the female holes are) . Simply pull this out with needle nose pliers (it will look like a small wedge), and then push the wires together and they will come right out. Put the new connectors over the wires and get them in the right position before inserting the wedge piece back in the new one. I lube everything up with dielectric grease before I put it back together.

Sorry but I think you are describing Deutch connectors not JST.

You are 100 percent correct. I don't know what I was thinking, other than I got my connectors mixed up.

All you need is a standard smooth paper clip.
Bend one end out to 90 degrees.
Using a jewelers file make a 45 degree on the end you just bent out.
It takes a little practice feeling the tab but once you get it they are generally very easy to remove.
You can buy the removal tool but they are $170 each.

I have a terminal pick, but I have found that Bobby pins work great since they are flat and a bit harder. Just cut off the bulb on the end and open it up.

The JST' s are a bitch. I have had better luck going in the wire side.

They can be at times. I have had a few that I just gave up on and went with a new one.
