Put in new starter last week. Ran good twice. Now when I hit the start button, starter only turns for 1 second. Is this a EHC issue. I tried disconnecting the positive from the batery for the night, no luck. Any idea's?

Just put in a new battery. The starter just quits after 1 second...Should I be checking lights on my EHC?

Put a volt meter on the battery. Need 12.8 volts sustained to start the bike. Sounds like you need to pull the battery and give it a good charge.

Love the EHC thought!

Iggy,
Like Raywood said it's probably the battery. When the battery gets low it will do as you described. Charge up your with a "battery tender" and check the battery voltage with the engine not running, should have 12.8 volts or 13. something. Then start the engine and check the voltage with the engine running. You should get about 1/2 to 1 1/2 volts more on your meter which will indicate the charging system in doing what it should. You can also increase the rpm and see if the voltage increases also. Let us know how it comes out.

Ray: Looks like you guys/gal were both right on the battery. Was on a tender, put it on a charger and it wouldn't sustain. New one goin back to where I bought it. Thanks to all, I hope.... Iggy

Iggy, make sure you test the charging system as stated above, I had the same problem, happened to be my voltage regulator. Even after replacing the battery it'd be a good idea to check.

Check to make sure that the main power and ground cables are tight and have good connection. Also make sure you gat a good battery with over 300cca. The Interstate battery I tried a while back was rated at 310cca but I went through 3 of them going bad in less than 6 months. Also the battery will sustain 12.5-13 volts at idle, but only if you get a really good battery will it stay above 10 volts during cranking. Most of the 270cca batteries have issues with dropping below 10 volts during crank and that takes a toll on the battery in a very short time.

Big Boar 350cca battery kick ass!

Braille is a nice one too, that suker is 425 CCA. Battery is big with these big engines.

Just ordered a Braille. Hope my voltage regulator is not dragging the whole system down. Iggy

Mine was, that's why you need to check it even after putting in the battery, check the battery with a voltage meter to make sure it's charging (with the bike running) and also make sure there is an influx in the meter when you rev the bike (as stated it should be between .5 and 1 volt more) If it's not charging you need to check the stator with an ohms meter.

Thanks Shane. I got out my old battery and called the service mgr. at the dealer and he said to charge it at 10 amps on the charger. My buddy said never charge more than 2
amps. The needle went all the way to the right, but the green light never came on. Was my original 3 year old battery dead, or did I fry it?
