major oil leak

02 Pitt Bull 107SS, bike has been sitting for a few months. Went to start bike, turned over fine, I have a spark, but bike never started. Oil poured out of lower crank case vent hose. If bike would have started, would this have happened? I may use a little starting fluid. Please help, thanks in advance.

Damn Beano, I don't think I would force it to crank like that! Sounds like you have a restriction somewhere. I suppose cranking it might unplug you but I'll let some of these other guys tell you. I haven't had that issue.

If it's been sitting for some time then oil may have settled in the motor and just vented out. But check your breathers anyway to make sure they aren't clogged.
As for the motor pull a plug and see if the cylinder is getting fuel. You will smell it and see it on the plug after attempting to start it. Put fresh fuel in it.

I agree with the boys. I also wouldn't use starter fluid if I were you. Bad things can happen.

Ever reset the check ball in you pump? The oil has passed the check ball and filled the lower crankcase. Drain the lower case before you start the bike. If oil looks clean and no smell of gas just put the oil back into the oil tank. Remember to install some sealer tape on the case drain plug when reinstalling the plug.

Hey Bikers Dream,
I know I'm just getting old, but could you possibly change your font color to white? That blue is like reading through a piece of colored rock candy. Sorry to jack the thread!
thanks

I have an 02 model also and agree with the above posts...the oil is gravity fed and over time will fill up the crankcase if you don't run it. If I deploy and know I am not going to ride for a while, I re-route the hose (hose use to go to the carburetor now is routed to floor) to a higher position than the crankcase, cuz if I don't all the oil will drain out onto the floor by the time I get back.
Once I get home, I lower the hose and let it drain into a bottle, and if it looks clean, pour it back in. You may also notice if you don't start it for a few weeks a little oil might squirt out of the hose until pressure stabilizes and oil pumps back up to the oil tank.

I have a 99 with a 107... does the same thing if I let it set for a couple of weeks. I just let it run for about a half hour and it stops. Pour the oil back in and its all good. Nothing to worry about.

Starting fluid may work to get it started but it will also clean the oil off the cylinder walls and could cause a DRY start which could cause scuffing.
