need help

As before allen wrench broke off in the wheel ajuster. cant get it out. tryed vise grips to turn it out axel side will not turn any ideals besides getting a new frame.:bang::angry:

You can buy some Kroil (sp??) and spray it into the adjuster opening and from the axel cap side. Let sit overnight and spray again. Also, while saturated gently tap on adjuster with a drift from hole side to set up vibrations in the metal to allow the Kroil to penetrate. Usually that will loosen rusted parts up without having to resort to heat which will burn your paint off the area.

I would try the lube but if you broke off an allen wrench inside you need to stop going to the gym and working arms. If the lube doesnt work Its time to try to drill that cap out and then re tap and dye it. My 04 has a cap inside to remove then the adjustment bolt. The cap keeps the road grime out of the hole. So you may have just messed up the cap. If you broke off the allen wrench inside the adjustment bolt you may need to see if you can get anything on it to get it out.
Have a beer (If you dont drink a coke and a smile) and get a view inside that opening and see what you have. see if a magnet will get the rest of the allen wrench out of there.

My 05 didn't have plugs. So I bought a couple of short chrome cap screws and installed them just against the adjuster with a bit of silicone to seal the area. I've seen some with the rust wicking out.


The allen wrench should be hardend steel and bitch to drill. But if you got the right punch or other tools you may be able to break it up. But you don't want to damage any threads. If its just wedged in the wheel adjuster due to twisting the punch may loosen it and then retrieve with a magnet.

I just looked at mine and IF you can loosen the other side enough to take the rear tire off and get the axle out you MAY be able to get that bolt all the way through.

Try a rare earth magnet and some stainless dental picks. Next option would be a dremel. Or some good ole hemostats. Worked back in the day to solve a lot of issues for me:2thumbs:

got wheel off. the wrench broke off in the adjuster. trying can called PB buster sprayed the adj. also loctied 2 nuts on the adj. if that doesnt work a friend of mine who owns a body shop will look at it. ill try to post a pic.

Don't know if you know this or not but the allen screw in each adjuster has two set screws in there. The first one adjust the tension and axle and then the second one goes in and jam locks into place so it can't move. Just wanted to throw that out there just in case. Also be sure to use some neversize on the allen screws once you get them suckers out.

i know about the set screws. they came out ok as the adjuster on the left side. sprayed pb on it loctited 2 nuts on the end just letting sit a while will try later. i dont care if i mess up the threads on the end of the adj. as long bas i get it out ill get a new one.

heat the end of the adjuster that sticks out into the axle blocks. that way you dont burn much of the paint
