so I got new head gaskets and some other few things to take care of a few leaks, started disassembly last night. during disassembly found that the bolts for the intake manifold where kinda loose. ( note to self ) finished tear down. Got the heads off and found a good deal of burnt oil on top of pistons and bottom of heads. Cleaned all this up to inspect for damage. cylinder walls look good.

now about a month ago I was on a run and after about an hour and a half ride on hwy we get to a bike show and I went to put in neutral and a crap load of oil came shooting out the carb breather. not a dripenough to spray the bike and my jeans down. Could this oil have gotten down to the chamber and burnt? I havent had this issue since. But i plan on putting it back together tonight.

From what I've read and heard, if the engine oil sump gets too full the engine will blow it out. How does the sump get too full you ask. Well my understanding of it is, if the oil filter flow gets restricted or the sump oil return pump fails then the sump oil pump can't keep up with evacuating the sump. I think there is a bypass ball spring valve that could also get stuck and cause sump oil buildup.

Check you rear head air breather check valve also. http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/101805-post11.html

thinks for the input, read it. But im still wondering how the oil got into the combustion chamber? That is my biggest concern. guess i can put it all back together, compression check and hope its good till winter

Inspect your rocker box cover gasket and make sure it didnt "roll" on you. Ive seen that a few times where the flat valve portion of the gasket will curl or roll inside the rocker box and block oil flow and cause you to build up oil in the sump and cause it to come out the breather.

will do....when i put it all together. I just read a post where someone stated there better be burnt oil on top the piston

Yeah I know....but that will be taken care of this winter. Got everything together last night and I have never heard it sound better. Upon second warm up it did start to leak oil in a few spots but hopefully after it sat all night everything will be seated. I think the biggest issues I found was the intake manifold was loose as hell. ( Note to self, not letting any other shops f*** with my bike. Its the first time i never heard it popping when letting off the gas.

had the same problem with oil dumping out the head breather.

cause was an intake leak causing high temps. motor was super hot.

yea I had some leaks in the manifold... took her out for a ride this weekend and she ran great...except now i have a worse oil leak. not from any of the ones i was fixing but from the furthest pushrod forward. Its coming from the upper o ring for the pushrod cover. I replaced all of them. Wondering if it could be from the pcv check valved?

BDP, the oil in the combustion chamber is probably from the valve guides being worn. TP rocker arms and TP boxes equal bad geometry and alignment causing excessive valve quide wear. At least that has been my experence. Your present oil leak is probably because the o-ring didn't seat propberly.

IT HELPS IF THERE IS AN ORING THERE...im guessing it fell out when putting heads back in.. will fix it 2 night. then should be good to go till winter
