The neutral light on my 06 K-9 stopped working. Anyone know how to test the sensor??

Unplug the connector at the transmission and put a jumper wire on it. Switch the bike on and see if neutral light comes on. If so then suspect the transmission switch, remove clean and inspect. If neutral light doesn't come on with jumper wire then start tracing wires back to the speedo. Could have a loose or broken wire. Especially check the wire at the connectors, I have had them break inside the insulation. Hope this helps, lets us know what you find.

This is from 05 manual but should help determine whats going on. Hope it helps.

The neutral switch that mounts in the top of the transmission cover is new for 2005. The new
switch is a normally closed (NG) switch as opposed to a normally open (NO) as it was for the
2004 and earlier models. The shifter drum inside the transmission which activates the neutral
switch is a new design such that it keeps the neutral switch ball pushed in while in all gears
except neutral. When the shifter dnrm is in the neutral position it actually lets the switch ball out
to its relaxed position, which is normally closed and activates the neutral indicator. The switch
has T-post connections just like it did for 2004 rnodels. The harness connector for the neutral switch simply slides on the switch
terminals and locks into place. The wiring is n little different for 2005. One side of the switch
connector is a black wire (ground), which did not change, but the other side of the connector
there is only one wire (green) as opposed to 2 wires that was for 2004 models only. The green
circuit passes through the EHC and directly to the neutral indicator providing a ground for it
when the transmission shifter drum is in the neutral position. The circuit also goes into the EHC
controller. The EHC uses the neutral switch input to determine whether or not to time out the
turn signals. When the neutral switch is NOT activated there should be approximately t 1 volts
on the green wire that attaches to the switch. When the switch is activated the green wire should
be grounded.
