Help, My 07 K9 turns over half a turn, churps and the park lights start blinking, I thought a weak battery but not the case.
I know not to crack the throttle when cranking, the compression release wont wort. Maybe the compression release is failing
Mayby the starter is bad? shorting out. becouse sometimes it cranks over nice and fast. then some times it just wont turn over

You could try depressing the compression releases to free them up. If they stick, I don't think you'll get the engine to turn over but one turn maybe!

Mine stuck a little the other day and did the same thing as you described except mine did start (I didn't have the blink or didn't notice). Of course, I ride every day to learn more and more about the in and outs of these fine Dogs. All I did on the next day was depress the compression release and I could tell it had a little stick to it.

voltage regulator. Also stand on the starter button, its a big motor, give it time. basically hold start button down for a few seconds. But after voltage reg I was good to go. Also, get a tender, not a trickle charger, they are different.

I agree and as i type am trying a diffrent battery charger. The Carqest one i have shuts off really fast.
Thank you

I thought you said it wasn't the battery in the original post! Did you do a capacity test to check the cranking amps? If not, then I agree that it would be the battery.

I would have to say the battery also. Don't just check the voltage prior to starting. Check the voltage while the starter is engaged. And never go cheap on a battery. Been through way too many in way too short a time. I would suggest Braille or Harley. Just had the best performance and life from these.

I bought a Braille and couldn't be happier. This replaced a 3 year old original BDM battery which I have laying around.:D

I 2nd that, Just because it reads 12 volts doesn't mean its got the Amps anymore. Mine did that and it was the batt. Bought a HD AGM batt for about $120 bucks and been good to go.

A GOOD battery will read 12.8 volts minimum after off the charge an hour. Push down on the compression releases to make sure they are freed up. DON'T JUMP START THE BIKE WITH A CHARGER ON IT. When you push the start button you should fell the CR's open while your finger is just touching the CR stem just under the CR cover dome.

Make sure all battery connections are tight and crimped tight as well.

GET YOUR BATTERY LOAD TESTED.....300 CRANKING AMPS UNDER LOAD TO GO.

Let us know.

You guys are great, I didnt think it was the battery becouse i put a new one in it. It was from NAPA and after putting the battery tender on it for a few hours it cranks ok, like three times in a rowe before the horn churps and the lights blink for saftey in traffic. In a hurry i did not properly charge the battery.I have a bad charger thats going to the garbage can. I will get ohm tester and check the volts and amps.if not up to your advice i will replace the battery again.
At first i do think the comp release's were stuck ,when i jumped it with a hot box it didnt help.
Took that bitch for a ride this evening and all is well.
Thank you all for your advice this is GREAT !!
Cheers

also make sure that all your connections are clean and tight . if you have a bad connection it will also do the same thing. i had a mutt and i pulled into the gas station and it did the same thing . i just moved the connections and it fired straight up , when i got home i removed and sanded the connectors and never had the problem again.

You guys might also consider electric compression releases. They're more than worth the money - my 107 fires I soon as I hit the switch.

My last Harley had this issue and it was the stator (generator). Kind of a pain to change but never had another starting problem.
