In support of our "Group buy" on this oil filter I though I would share with you my experience with it so far. If you don't believe in these filters then fine. Please don't come here arguing your case. They are not for everyone and we are not pushing them as such. For you guys that only put on a thousand miles a year due to weather, work or whatever then you don't need to spend the money on one of these verses a paper filter. :flag:
LDO and I were at the V-Twin Trade Show in Las Vegas a few years ago and we walked up on this cat selling re-usable filters. LDO having worked on Helicopters that use the same technology and me spending my life on Nuclear Powered Submarines, we had an understanding of how this works.
After some negotiations (bull shitting) we were able to get a pair of the chrome ones for a better price than advertised. Probably didn't help that we were both "active duty service members" this got us quite a few freebie's including show tickets (Thanks Bob)!
Anyway, you can go to the website http://www.kandpengineering.com/index.html and get all the particulars on the filter. But, one thing I learned and this isn't to start some filter wars is that the "industry" standard only stipulates that a filter must meet 50% of it's rated capacity. So if your filter is rated at 30 microns then the industry standard is that it must filter out better than 50% of particles larger than 30 microns. These SS filters no matter who makes them are an "absolute" filters so if it's rated at 35 microns (which these are) then no particles what so ever get by larger than 35 microns. These are used by all hospitals in filtering blood so they are widely used by different industries.
Wars have been started on other websites on the efficiency of these filters over paper filters or whether a paper filter can get clogged and if the bypass works and so on and so on.......... Lets not start it over here, please.
Best thing to do is do your own research and if you want to invest in one of these filters then fine do it with confidence and rest assured that there are a lot of them out there with them doing a good job and maybe it will pay for itself in a few months. It certainly did for me rather than spending $14 a piece for a K&N!
As for cleaning the filter it's real easy just as the website states you only need soap and water or solvent. I have put over 20,000 miles on my bike since using this filter and I clean it every time I do any work/service on my bike. I use a high pressure hose to blow it out from the inside out.
This filter is easy to install and remove and you don't have to remove your crank sensor (05 and newer models). I especially like this part cause of all the parts on my bike I don't want to play with and that's the electrical system.
I will tell you that if you get it you will notice a lot of paper fibers getting picked up the first few cleanings. I blew out paper fibers for the first few cleanings and these came from paper filters. The BDM company knows I have had this filter due to my oil light problems I've had in the past that were traced to a grounded wire under the tank so no warranty lose or anything like that.
And before you ask no I haven't noticed any difference in performance or oil pressure or heating/cooling. It's just another type filter and does a good job as far as I'm concerned.
Also, the website isn't making any money on this. LDO is negotiating the price with the vendor for you and you will be ordering yourself through the vendor!
Here are a few picks of the filter.
Get one,

Here is the pictures from the website with the filter wrench that comes with it. It needs a 3/8" ratchet.
