oil line fittings

Ok so I have a leak in my oil lines (possibly two of them where the SS sheath has rubbed through) and am planning a trip this weekend so I got two lines off at one end, wrapped in duct tape and two layers of shrink wrap so hopefully that will help for now - can't make it any worse anyway. I'm going to change my lines out for black rubber lines so will need new fittings. Can anyone let me know the thread sizes for the oil tank and the pump? I'm assuming 3/8 NPT but don't want to buy based on an assumption. I should have taken one out last night but I'm a dick like that and forgot.

Cheers
Lee

I had to remove the oil tank to get those off last time I did it and it was a total bitch

good luck

I think I messed one of mine up also so I need to replace those as well

yeah I see what you mean - been under there again tonight. I think I might be able to do it if I get the starter out but not sure.

Anyone know the thread sizes of the fittings?

thanks gents

Smithy - no idea yet. Whatever will work. Ideally if there is something out there that I can use the fittings that are in there now but with rubber hoses.

Chacha - are you out there, Lee calling Chacha

ok so does anyone know if I can take the fittings off the ends of the SS hoses and re-use them with 3/8" rubber hoses? I'm struggling a bit with this

Sorry to be late on this Lee, been on the road. The fittings are AN 6 to 1/8 NPT (yea, smaller than I thought too). The BDM OEM connectors are crimp fittings, so they can't be reused (sorry). Most of this stuff should be available at any auto performance shop -- do you have those in the Kingdom?

thanks Chach. So 1/8th NPT to the tank, pump, motor etc and 6AN to the line? So I either need something to fit a 3/8 ID rubber hose to a 6AN fitting, or new fittings with a 1/8th NPT thread that I can attach a hose to? Apologies but I need this explained to me like I'm a 4 year old - never done this shit before.

Smithy - I had a look at Swagelok and can't find what I need on the website. problem is I don't really know what will work. There is a Swagelok here about 5 miles away and I called them and it all seems a bit much. They need all your details to see if they can send you a quote, and then see if they can supply you with parts etc.

the 3 lines i just took off were all female crimped ends. male fittings coming off the tank and case

exactly - I think with these all the fittings already in the tank, pump etc can stay in there. Those colours aren't my thing but they're getting some in black so I'll wait til then. I've come to the conclusion over the last three days that it is nigh on impossible to patch up a leaking SS hose. I've had one last go tonight and I added a bit of liquid tape - whether that will hold it for now I'll find out tomorrow. Not looking forward to disconnecting the hoses from the tank - the feed is alright but the other two won't be

Lee, those should work (bit pricey eh?)

Here is a pic of the changes on mine.

Got my parts from JEGS (sample);

JEGS 110001 JEGS AN Hose End Fittings - Black

If you're changing every oil hose, then you'll need eight (8) connectors ( female 6AN) for the four lines;
- filter to engine sump
- bag to filter
- bag to pump top
- bag to pump bottom

Now if you are changing the fittings as well, then those are the Male 6AN to 1/8 NPT bits -- I was unclear just how extensive your plan is....

thanks Chach. Yeah I'm going to get 8 and do the lot. Yours looks great - did you have much trouble getting to the fittings on your tank? Two of mine look like they will not be fun.

They ain't cheap as you say - welcome to England. Petrol is £1.22 a litre at the moment! Thats £5.49 a gallon - thats about $8.80 a gallon. WTF is that all about.

Lee asked;

The hardest one is the connection under the pump (sump) that goes to the oil filter inside fitting. It's a 1/8 of a turn thing for a long time...I didn't bother changing the fitting as it was such a pain.

I recommend pulling the exhaust as it makes it way easier to get to the lines -- worth the time IMO.

thanks Chacha. I've actually just order some straight connectors for now so I can just replace the sections near the shocks where the holes are.

Off topic but I did about 100 miles in the rain today. Apart from the right indicator coming on and staying on at will, the oil pressure and neutral lights staying on, the headlight blowing a bulb to bits and the engine intermittently missing and cutting out once the bike ran beautifully!
