Most people are using the .600 S&S cam and the approprate springs, this would be the correct cam for that engine according to S&S spec.

The 600 cam is good, as I have done it on mine...but you will lose some bottom end. The woods cam, from what I understand, may have a broader powerband...giving you the boost without losing the bottom end. The 600 cam takes a bit to kick in. I am sure others can comment on this as well. And ya gotta be running a XxX carb setup...it is the bomb.

TXCHOPPERGUY! BOOST now you got me thinking about turbo. If it wasnt so bulky in the long run could be cheaper if you ran 4-5# boost.

there is a thread on here about the woods cam - .650 lift - I have one on the way and a couple of members are already running it - also have to get the springs. What cam you will need will depend on where you want the power to come in depending on your own riding style. You may also want to consider decking work - also good info on here about that - I'm having that done too

:hi: thing is, with a turbo, you still lose bottom end torque until the impeller gets up to speed unless you're running a twin turbo to cover both high and low RPM.

Depends on how the turbo is set up A.R rating of the housings and wheel config.Lag or responce off ilde with the late model turbos we dont see alot of this.Set up on a bike like ours it would be nice to see im only talking 4-5 pounds just enough air to bring me up to sea level specs.Remember my bike runs at 6000 ft.

much thanks

I love this forum. I have been a Harley Brother for many years but Big Dog is my ride now. Glad to know a Brotherhood exists with Big Dogers. Much thanks. sparker:flag:

I have talked to a few people on this...and I heard that the .600 cam is a all around good cam.....it will give you a little more low mid and high end....I never heard about losing some bottom end....

The 600 is more of a mid- high range cam...at least thats what it feels like on my bike...I will say this, you know it when it comes on. I put mine in after having my bike a year...at around 5000 miles. The first year I had the bike, I hit the rev limiter between 7 to 10 times. After putting in the cam and XXX carb and k&N filter, I hit the limiter that many times in the first week! The motor breates so much better and raps up so much faster, I hit the limiter before I knew it. The cam really comes on @ about 3500 rpm...BANG...suddenly the bike wants to crawl out from under you.

I'm just glad that no matter if I hit a rev limiter or not... no more thunderheart counter!!!

what happens when you hit the rev limiter? Gas - what do you mean by thunderheart counter? (I know you've changed your thunderheart ignition to the Crane)

On the newer bikes, the EHC cuts out one of the two cylinders when the RPM exceeds 6280 (or thereabouts).

The rev hit counter and rev's stopwatch... the print out you get from the dealer... that is all part of the thunderheart ignition not the EHC (as commonly believed)

i believe p8troit was just explaining it somewhere... the thunderheart stops it way before it would get ugly.

When using the S&S 600 cam you should be able to minimize bottom end torque loss by getting compression back up to S&S original design. That would require taking about 0.040" off the barrels. When reassembling put the 0.030" Cometic head gaskets in for a more efficent squish band.

If we only had access to the timing adjustment on these things you could get a little more out of it. I'm about to try and install the S&S IST ignition unit and hope I don't blow the EHC in the process.

When you remove 40k from the barrel approx.Do we have to shave anything from the intake manifold?
